Quote:I’ve seen many people say they love Chrome, but won’t give up Firefox until Ad-Block (or an equivalent) is available for it.hmmm, google is based on adverts, so having something that can block the very thing google is built on seems strange 🙂
I may give it a go but I have a deep mistrust of anything Google related. But that’s an entirely different story…lol
[/quote1228085671]I certainly believe Google’s advertising services to be the reason behind a lack of adblocking plugin support. It’s a shame because this really is the deal breaker for many people.
The funny thing is, I don’t actually mind Google text ads. It’s those horrible in-yer-face all-singing all-dancing banners and such that I want to block. If Google wants to implement a plugin that blocks ads but lets their own through, I wouldn’t mind at all. Though I’m sure the Monopolies Commision would have something to say. 😀

Guys and girls…. I almost fell off the chair at the price here:Speechless!

[/quote1228079959]Ahh, I’ve looked at that marketplace seller before, they’re very cheeky. I had bookmarked the blue model on their website about a week ago when it was selling for £315. The “previous price” was apparently £362.50 I looked at it again a few days again and the price had risen to £359.99 – the “previous price” had also gone up to over £400!
Very naughty of companies to pretend something has been available for sale at a higher price to make it look like you’re getting a good deal.

MemberCheers adatay, I’m very interested in knowing how good the responsiveness is so thanks for the positive affirmation. 🙂

MemberThis is one of the mice that I’m considering switching to if I have to return the Microsoft one. I do have a couple of concerns about it though. One is the small size – reviews seem to be imply it’s just a bit too small – and the other is that the scroll wheel can’t be used as a middle button. I use the latter function constantly while I’m browsing to open background tabs.
The other mouse I’m considering is it’s older cousin, the VX Revolution. It’s larger and allows usage of the scroll wheel as a middle button, but it doesn’t have that lovely nano dongle.
Good price you got it for, it’s only just come down from £39.99

MemberI’ve been using Chrome since the day it was launched and I love it. It makes other browsers look incredibly sluggish.
There are a couple of niggles for me. You can’t right-click an image and get the properties (width, height filesize etc) and cookie control is very basic at the moment.
I think the biggest drawback though is lack of plugin support. I’ve seen many people say they love Chrome, but won’t give up Firefox until Ad-Block (or an equivalent) is available for it.
Anyway, in regards to your specific queries:
Ease of Use: Exceptional. Because it’s so basic, there’s nothing new to learn. It takes less than a minute to go through all the configuration options and get them setup how you want.
Compatibility with webpages, flash, java, etc: I’ve not experienced any problems at all. If a plugin is needed, the content is clearly marked and the option to download and install it is offered.
Add-ons (?): As I mentioned above, this is the weak spot. There aren’t any, either official or user-created. Some sites offer skins, but I’ve not had any luck getting them to work.
Use of system resources i.e. is it ideal for a Netbook?: I think it’s absolutely perfect for a netbook. It cleverly gives each tab it’s own system process and if that tab hangs or slows down you can close it without losing the whole browser. In the rare event that the browser itself does hang, as soon as you reopen it, it will restore your pages (this is an option you’ll need to set). The browser window is very neat and minimal (no title bar) so makes excellent use of the limited height of netbook screens.

MemberVery nice desktop, I’m also rather fond of space/planetary wallpaper. 😀
The bbCode buttons are a little more awkward than I’m used to on other forum scripts, but jez knocked up a quick guide earlier today which you can view here:

MemberCheers Samuel. My first thought was to switch modes in case it was a BT problem, but sadly that made no difference. I guess it could still be an interference issue though as I believe BT works on the same 2.4Ghz band as wireless.
I thought it might be the DPI of the laser being lower than I’m used to, but turns out it’s actually higher than my desktop mouse. The “symptoms” are like the battery is low, but I’ve tried three batteries in it now, including a brand-new high-power one and no luck.
I’m taking it back tomorrow and will see if a replacement is any better. Failing that, I think I’m going to swap it for either a VX Nano or a VX Revolution, especially as they seem popular with other NC10 owners.

Memberramdiane – your image appears to be on your computer and thus won’t show up here. Could you upload it to somewhere online and update the link? 🙂
jez, I hadn’t noticed it was the same script you use here. Looks very different, guess it’s quite customisable.

MemberCan’t say I’m surprised at this article unfortunately. Michael Arrington is known for being very strongly opinionated, to the point of sometimes not seeing the wood for the trees.
Comparing netbooks to iPhones or regular laptops is like comparing apples to oranges. It just misses the point.

MemberMine says 5.8% wear and I’ve had it since Tuesday. I’m using a little app called BatteryBar.
Richard, you’re welcome to link to software sites as long as they’re above board. 🙂

Member[quote1227996743=emdy]So the Samsung stuff should stay?
Thanks for all the responses so far. 🙂
[/quote1227996743]I removed the Samsung Update software as it doesn’t work and the Network Manager which I’ve no use for. Everything else I’ve left alone and it doesn’t seem to affect system speed or hog resources.

MemberCheers guys. 🙂
I installed the latest Intellipoint software straight from Microsoft’s site and it didn’t seem to help. It adds a slider to adjust the performance of the mouse while using more resources, but this doesn’t seem to have changed anything either. Interesting thought that an older driver/software might improve things, I’ll see if I can find something.
If I get no luck with software, I’ll give it the weekend to see if it improves. Otherwise I’ll nip back to PC World on Monday and swap it for another one.

MemberGreat idea!
I’d like to mention Google’s Chrome browser which, while still in beta and low on features, is an extremely lightweight and fast piece of software and thus ideal for any netbook:
Google Chrome: http://www.google.com/chrome
Also, 7-Zip, a handy utility for archiving files: http://www.7-zip.org
CamStudio, a video capture tool: http://camstudio.org
Crimson Editor, a notepad replacement for editing source code: http://www.crimsoneditor.com
Fraps, a nifty framerate checking tool. There is a premium version which removes video capture restrictions, but everything else is in the free version: http://www.fraps.com
MP3tag, a useful and easy-to-use tag editor: http://www.mp3tag.de/en

MemberI noticed that thread and wondered what he had originally linked to. I thought it might be a torrent site.
Talking of which, what’s our stance on things like noCD cracks? Some people use them legitimately on notebooks so they don’t have to carry the CDs around, but they’re also widely used for pirated software. I wouldn’t allow any links to such things, but are people allowed to mention their existence?
