Can’t help you with Win8.
Have you rebooted after the fix? Without the reboot the fix is not working.
Try to confirm that you edited the correct key ex:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}000] FeatureTestControl
Please post the orginal driver included in Win8. I’m curious what build is it. You can find it here:
c:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryigdlh.inf_x86_neutral_****
If you have more folders thats because you installed more drivers form intel. The orginal Win8 folder will be smallest. The first thing I did was to reboot, and yeah, that’s the registry value I changed. And the driver IS 8.14.10.2230, though I replaced it several times, without any luck.
I noticed that if you disable the device, reboot and stay like that, brightness WILL work, but if you enable it again (800×600 is pretty bad), brightness will change to where it was: The 7th notch. This is driving me insane. I dual boot with 7, but I really hope I ever get brightness fully working again 🙁
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Backlight ON/OFF DOES work, but brightness doesn’t.

Working also with 8.14.10.2364 – you can find it somewhere on the web x86, x64 also. 😎
Ok, already downloaded this version, then thought better of it…for me, 8.14.10.1972 is still working 100%, so this is quite clearly a case of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
I guess there’s a good chance that updating the driver may mess things up again, and I also guess there’s little to gain even if it works, so I’ll just leave things the way they are 🙂
Cheers anyway!
Others who have problems, did you guys try the 8.14.10.1972 version? For my N220 it was the only one that worked, and many others (also using other models) have also had success with 8.14.10.1972. Just wanted to make sure…
EDIT: yes, noticed now that at least Caipe87 tried .1972 too…so no help there 🙁

MemberHi all!
Do somebody has any news about this problem on Windows 8? I’ve got a NB30 netbook and I’m facing exactly the same problem on Win7 (solved with the FeatureTestControl trick) and Win8 (not solved…).I’m very interested in upgrading when Win8 will be released, but this is a very bad problem for me…

MemberHey, Thanks for the registry hack fix, i used with the modded drivers. Now I’ve got a solution for bad performance of GMA 3150. I’am a windows 7 user, I installed modded drivers and performance increased a bit, i had to do the registry hack for brightness. Now I tried windows XP drivers running windows 7, and the performance was Much better, 3d mark went from 1500 to 2400, but using the registry hack i can’t fix the problem of brightness, is there another way, or modification to fix it? We could try, thank!
Edit: Here ive got some screenshots. First with XP drivers and then with sherry.

MemberI have the same problem on the N210 plus 64 bit with the brightness set to full and the Function keys do not work except for volume. I tried the registry hack and rebooted but that did not work for me. I have the latest graphics driver from intel 8.14.10.2230. Has anyone succeeded fixing the brightness problem with this machine? Is there another work around to adjust the brightness maybe? Your advice would be appreciated. Kind Regards Chris Update 28 June 2013. Tried installing easy display manager but this still did not help with the brightness problem. It just stayed on the 7th bar. I noticed a problem with the keys instead of qwertyuiop, I was getting numbers for some of the letter keys like qwerty4567. I used system restore to before I installed easy display manager and the problem disappeared. I also got the same problem with the keyboard when I installed Samsung speedup. Restoring to before the install solved the problem. It seems that 32 bit programes that have something to do with the function keys mess up the keyboard on 64 bit Windows 7. Kind Regards Chris

ParticipantHi
Revived my old laptop recently.
I’m very curious how the registry fix is found.
I’m willing to go into technical rabbit hole. 😉 -
