MemberYou got that from Digg, didn’t you? I was just reading that one. In fact, I think I commented on the Digg page. It seems that people just don’t get it when it comes to netbooks. They either try to complain that they’re not fully-featured (as if we didn’t already know that), or else try to suggest that they should be made bigger (which totally defeats the purpose of the netbook).
I’ve got a blue Sammy NC10 on its way to me now (estimated arrival: Dec. 2), and I just can’t wait.

MemberThe guy doesn’t have a clue. Here’s a quote from the article that demonstrates it.
“In other words, the iPhone or iPod Touch, with a tiny 3.5 inch screen, has a vastly better browsing experience than any Netbook (it’s faster too).”
I own an iPod touch. It’s a nice music player but a terrible internet device. I was so dissatisfied trying to use the internet on it away from home, I started looking at new laptops. I ended up with a netbook, which is awesome in comparison.
With the exception of the idiotic quote above, the writer is too hung up on comparing netbooks to full-size computers, which is kinda silly.

MemberGeesh – netbooks are awesome. We all know that. I’ve replied here in more detail: Why netbooks rule. Dig it ;)!

MemberThis article is laughable, he’s clearly a worshipper of the Mac and doesn’t get (or is deliberately missing the point of) the netbook. If Apple don’t want a share of a market that is estimated to ship 50 million units, then more fool them.
The notion that surfing and working on an iPhone is a superior experience to that on a netbook is preposterous. I have both devices and the iPhone has a beautiful interface but is hugely compromised and often woefully slow when browsing sites. I think the article merely demonstrates the depths of his own ignorance. In the last 3 days I have constructed a database, several spreadsheets, edited photos and created graphics in Fireworks, all on my NC10 – do that on an iPhone.? Not going to happen, is it?
If netbooks were so unusable, they would not be selling in the numbers that they are. End of story.

Memberjust typical apple fanboy nonsense, it’s like reading an article by a creationist giving 3 reasons why the world was definitely created in 7 days…

MemberHe doesn;t seem to class a 10″ netbook as a netbook but as a laptop…”Netbook screens are starting to inch up to 10 and 11 inches. Which doesn’t really make them much different from normal laptops (and the prices are about the same)”

MemberI havent read this yet but I wondered if he was referring to the older 7″ versions vs the 10″ ones.
I happen to be a bit of a mac fanboy, but I also appreciate great design and functionality in other brands and products which the NC10 seems to deliver on

MemberBut Psych, you’re OUR Mac fanboi! He seems to be cut from the cloth of….’everything that isn’t a mac sucks, yeah?’. I’m not sure its worth reading as it might just make you irritated! His claim that you can do MUCH more on an iPhone rather than a netbook is ludicrous.

[/quote1228050836]Yeah he does seem to be doing this, but the article was only published yesterday!

MemberCan’t say I’m surprised at this article unfortunately. Michael Arrington is known for being very strongly opinionated, to the point of sometimes not seeing the wood for the trees.
Comparing netbooks to iPhones or regular laptops is like comparing apples to oranges. It just misses the point.

MemberApples are nicer than oranges though 😉

MemberWell, I am glad of the TechCrunch article for one thing; one of the blog’s critics mentioned the usefulness of the “F11” key when using a netbook.
A key, I guess, I never hit before, but very cool.

Memberi can see where he’s coming from in that part of the iphone’s functionality is intended to be that of which a netbooks primary intention is, portable easy internet access. for all intents and purposes both satisfy the criteria, however a netbook will always win due to it’s lack of convoluted operating system and vetted software and limited useability.
