MemberI have long resisted the wireless trend and stuck with a corded mouse for my desktop, but I’m now using a Bluetooth mouse on the NC10 and have a slight concern. It doesn’t seem as responsive as a corded mouse, it’s a bit sluggish in fact. Sometimes the cursor “jitters” when I’m making a small movement and sometimes it stops briefly as though I’ve lost the connection.
Is this the norm, or is there something I can do to make it more tolerable? I get the same response in both 2.4Ghz wireless and Bluetooth modes and I’ve tried the mouse on different surfaces and at different distances from the netbook with no improvement.

MemberI used to have a mouse like that, could never find out why it jittered about. Best advice I got was something else was causing interference! Anyway I just bought another much more expensive one and it worked a treat.
I’m currently using a normal (not bluetooth) wireless mouse and it’s solid.

MemberI’ve never used a bluetooth mouse but haven’t had this type of problem with normal wireless optical mice. Any unresponsiveness was normally due to the type of surface I was using it on.

MemberDid you install any driver packs with it?
Might be a good idea to search for a newer or older oneNovember 29, 2008 at 10:10 pm #172211Becky
MemberCheers guys. 🙂
I installed the latest Intellipoint software straight from Microsoft’s site and it didn’t seem to help. It adds a slider to adjust the performance of the mouse while using more resources, but this doesn’t seem to have changed anything either. Interesting thought that an older driver/software might improve things, I’ll see if I can find something.
If I get no luck with software, I’ll give it the weekend to see if it improves. Otherwise I’ll nip back to PC World on Monday and swap it for another one.

MemberI have a Mogo PCMCIA-slot bluetooth mouse (HP version actually) which I was using with my Acer laptop. On that, it would quite often get jittery and laggy making it essentially unusable especially for games.
I wasn’t sure if it was just the bluetooth in the laptop (I bought an internal BT module as an add-on from eBay) or the specific mouse, or the tech in general.
Certainly, I have seen lots of people making similar complaints about BT mice.
However, I have paired the same mogo BT mouse up with my NC-10 and after a couple of hours use, it seems to be fine.
I think a lot depends on how good the BT in your device is. I know that in my Acer the add-on module came with a small wire antenna which I suspect isn’t really well placed and I’m getting the signal blocked by other components and hence a laggy connection. So far, it’s looking like the NC10 has a well implemented system and I haven’t experienced the same lag. Too bad I don’t have the PCMCIA slot in the NC10 to dock it 🙂
That said, I’ve orderd a Logitech VX Nano with its own (tiny) 2.4GHz transceiver. I have used similar technology with my desktop and it’s every bit as good as a wired USB mouse. It would be nice if the Nano was bluetooth/proprietary switchable though in the event that it was good enough to use over BT.

MemberCheers Samuel. My first thought was to switch modes in case it was a BT problem, but sadly that made no difference. I guess it could still be an interference issue though as I believe BT works on the same 2.4Ghz band as wireless.
I thought it might be the DPI of the laser being lower than I’m used to, but turns out it’s actually higher than my desktop mouse. The “symptoms” are like the battery is low, but I’ve tried three batteries in it now, including a brand-new high-power one and no luck.
I’m taking it back tomorrow and will see if a replacement is any better. Failing that, I think I’m going to swap it for either a VX Nano or a VX Revolution, especially as they seem popular with other NC10 owners.

MemberI’ve got a VX Nano – excellent little mouse, I recommend it. The USB receiver really is tiny and you can leave it plugged in most of the time as it’s so unobtrusive.
I’ve not had any issues with resposiveness / interference whilst using it. Battery life is also very good.

MemberCheers adatay, I’m very interested in knowing how good the responsiveness is so thanks for the positive affirmation. 🙂

MemberWell, I took the mouse back to PC World today, but decided not to swap it for another of the same. I didn’t want to have to go all the way back again if it still acted up, so I opted for the VX Revolution instead. It’s sold in-store for fifty quid, but they honoured the web-only price of £29.35 so I actually ended up getting a tenner back from my initial purchase.
I’m very happy I made the switch, this one is very smooth with no sticking or lag problems. Looks like the MS mouse was either faulty or just not very good.

I remember reading one of your other posts regarding your lack of wireless mouse experience, so I’m glad to hear you found a wireless mouse that suits your needs. I have the VX Revolution and use it with my laptop every day; great mouse.December 1, 2008 at 8:26 pm #172215Becky
MemberCheers Rsaeire, I’ve been using the VX Revolution for a couple of hours now and I absolutely love it. 🙂
