MemberHi everyone.
I’ll be getting my NC10 very soon (excited!). What can I delete, i.e. trial stuff, other bloatware?
Thanks for your help.November 28, 2008 at 11:03 pm #172047TheRing

MemberIt comes with a trial version of McAfee AV – probably a few people will uninstall it – I did
Adobe Reader 8 is installed.
Other than that, it all seems to be Samsung stuff.

MemberAhh so this is very different than what I had to clean off of my wife’s Sony Vaio TZ!
I read somewhere that Sony now allows you to pay extra to have a clean machine..

[/quote1227950754]Yeah often vendors are paid by software houses to load up their machines as this is a good way of promoting their products using trial versions. So I guess it is nice to have the choice. I think a few people will be happy to get it cheaper and just do a quick OS refresh!

MemberWell I actually ran into a problem cleaning the Vaio TZ. There was some media player that used code to control the DVD player and when I removed it, it removed the code as well which rendered the DVD player useless!!!!
Thankfully I searched and found that others had the same issue and there was a fix but it required going into the depths of the Windows system (I am more of a mac guy) and adding code.

So the Samsung stuff should stay?
Thanks for all the responses so far. 🙂November 29, 2008 at 10:16 pm #172048Becky

[/quote1227996743]I removed the Samsung Update software as it doesn’t work and the Network Manager which I’ve no use for. Everything else I’ve left alone and it doesn’t seem to affect system speed or hog resources.

MemberI removed the Mcafee software (mainly because of the irritating reminders it kept giving me) and used the Windows firewall and Avira’s free AV (I use that everywhere and am happy with the protection it’s provided me) and tidied up the desktop, but there’s little on the Samsung that needs removing really and 160GB is plenty unless you plan to store GBs of music and video.

MemberI always carry out a clean install to ensure everything that doesn’t come natively with Windows is removed.

I have kept it – I think most of the Samsung supplied software is useful. Only do a clean install if you are confident in reinstalling all the drivers and getting it back to where you started (minus unwanted stuff!)December 14, 2008 at 5:49 pm #172054Sweet-P

How do you remove the Network Manager….I don’t see it listed in the Add/Remove Programs list?
