hehe! Yep I have chatted to a couple of people in the netbook world in the past – some networking that is looking to pay off!
I got a lot out of reading the UMPC site and very much recommend anyone here subscribes to their RSS feed for wider info on mini PCs. The author is more of a MID (mobile internet device) fan has a firm interest in netbooks too. I think he is tempted to buy an NC10! Now that really is a top endorsement!
Other news? I think Samsung are probably in a good position right now and will be looking to milk what they can whilst they are on top. It won’t last forever though, and I’m sure we’ll have some updates soon/ I think some news on 3G models must be imminent!
Thanks Dave – early days on the site but gathering some good info quickly. I have a whole list of posts, pages and guides I want to do and not enough time to do it but over the next few weeks we’ll see the content really take off I hope 🙂

Cool! I bet those gfx packages are quite hardcore? That will be a real test of any processor lol! I feel quite positive about VS2008 running well, heck I might install Express later and see how that goes.
I know how you feel about the cancelling – I almost did too. Infact I logged into my order account to cancel and reorder from a supplier which said it had the black ones in, only to find that mine had been dispatched! So that worked out well!
In a couple of months the short wait will mean very little so hold out if you can – I think the blue ones will end up being the coolest!

I definitely agree with that, it looks much more like a “real” notebook than others do and when I show it to people they are like “it’s that light?” “battery lasts THAT long” “It cost WHAT?”. Some of my colleagues have not even heard of the “netbook” genre so it’s a real eye opener for them!
I look forward to finding out how you get on – perhaps a new thread or something! I’d love to do a “user review” cat on the front page if you wanna whack together a few hundred words!

I am no expert but my guess would be that at best you would have to send it off abroad if there was a problem. This is something I would advice purchasers to check very carefully with the distributer and Samsung themselves.
At worst you will have yo buy a new machine. For some, at a cost of Ă‚ÂŁ300, it will be worth the risk. I guess for others it won’t be.
If anyone does ask their distributer – please let us know what they say, but please remember everyone must do their own homework too!

I bet it’s a bit frustrating waiting for it to arrive whilst reading about everyone elses exploits lol! But I had the option of getting a white one two weeks earlier than the black but decided to wait so I know how it feels to hold out for the version you want!
I had not heard of XNA before. What kind of stuff do you work on? Is that used to produce commercial games?
I am professional data developer and will be putting on the BI development studio (a specialised visual studio) at some point to see how it performs. I will of course post up my experience so it will be interesting to see how the NC10 handles some “mans” software ;)!
What is used for silverlight development? I have a passing interest in the technology and its something my employer’s site is starting to incorporate more and more.
Nice spot, I think that will match the black NC10s very nicely lol! I ditched the standard XP theme straight away for the “classic” style but I am tempted to try out that suggestion.
The classic look makes it look a bit old fashioned – like im running Windows 98 – eek!
How are people finding the operation? Is everyone finding it hard to get into the slot? I am about to purchase!

Im not sure my Mrs would ever get me a netbook for Christmas but it would make an excellent gift! Start getting excited lol ;)!
A very good point regarding price. I think more people will be more willing to take a punt on a Ă‚ÂŁ200 device, as soon as you start heading towards 300-400 I think the psychology changes – it becomes a “big ticket” item. Well in my case anyway!
News of Windows 7 is always good, it means I think I will safely skip Vista – I don’t have anything against Vista other than the cost of purchasing an OS that I don’t really ‘need’.

Like I said above this is as much a personal blog as a community site so when it comes to running it I will be doing that. And I will be doing it whether there are 10 readers or 100! I think the thing about good blogs is that the authors are really into what they are writing about!
But happy to support anyone elses ideas. Check out the NC10 ubuntu blog or the other NC10 forums around! It’s hotting up!
