the original source is from http://www.eeepcnews.de so I have added google translation.
If you click on the photo you will be sent to a flickr page with more pics of W7 on a S-NC10.better than vista! 😀 lol

Memberlol, awesome for when Win 7 is actually out – definitely a good idea to make an OS less resource hungry, there’s simply no excuse for the unexplained exceptional resource eating monster that is called Vista (at times) so Win 7 is definitely right up my street, but like I say – it’s not out yet so Vista/XP/Mac OSX for me at the moment.

MemberNews of Windows 7 is always good, it means I think I will safely skip Vista – I don’t have anything against Vista other than the cost of purchasing an OS that I don’t really ‘need’.

MemberI’m taking a wait and see approach and sticking with XP. Good point Jez, unless it brings something really revoultionary to the table besides more eye candy then what is the point really? I don’t forsee XP going away anytime soon…

MemberGreat! If anyone has used Windows 7 on their NC10 or if anyone has used Windows 7 in any capacity at all… what is its footprint compared to Win XP.
I know it is less resource hungry than Vista, but would like to know if it’s less resource hungry than XP.
Anyone?

Memberi’ve used win 7 for a couple of days when the pre-beta first got leaked.
it’s pretty good.
i’d describe it as vista but with the performance, functionality and comfort factor of xp.
the footprint is about the same as xp.as far as i can tell, the only real downside to it is the driver set is a fucking mess. it’s not quite vista and not quite xp so some stuff works with the xp drivers and some stuff works with the vista drivers and some stuff just doesnt work at all.
i tried it on a couple of different systems. the worst off one was actually my own desktop, on which the graphics card didn’t seem to agree with it and the install didnt even complete.
it’s good to know that it runs on these though. i’ll deffo be trying it out.November 25, 2008 at 11:01 am #169855blueheaven
MemberIs it possible to install a 3rd OS, so you can choose at startup which os to boot? Currently i have XP and Vista installed on different partitions and that gives me a nice choice at startup.
I intend to install a bigger HD, can i copy my XP partition to the new HD so i can run the NC10 after the install?November 25, 2008 at 10:20 pm #169847TheRing
MemberOk im now typing this on me nc10 running windows 7. so how did the install go? quite easily with only one issue.
Install
install started at 8.45 and was on desktop by 9.12 (taking pics as well lol) there are a few changes from vista install including your wirelss network is setup before the instal finishes and you are connected immediately. you have to setup a “homegroup” this is the home network like workgroup for vista or home for xp, it then gives you a password which will be used by all pcs on your group
Straight out of the box, your screen res is corrected during install, wirless connected, bluetooth working, infact everything was good to go except lan.
all samsung programs run fine (after uac is turned off).
While it looks like vista it is a lot glossier yet in an understated way, a step closer to the mac osx for sure, little touches that dont glaree out but impress never the less.
Mind you control panel now has 64 entries as default, a lot of playing around required lol.
So how are resources well you have to bear in mind this is far from finished (about 1yr) but still its looking very very good. It runs a little faster than vista but resource usage is about the same.
currently average cpu use it 9 percent idle and 65 percent memory free (2gb)
going to do tghis test again in the morning as windows update found a new driver for the chipset for this prerelease so will see if that increases the base score

MemberTheRing, where did you source your copy of 7?
Does the software expire after a certain time, and is it something any of us could stick with on a long term basis?
Any apps not installing? E.g. office etc?

[/quote1227792175]there are lots of things that dont work in it and lots of software that won’t install. the driver set is a total mess and drivers don’t exist for a LOT of stuff.
it’s not even been beta testewd yet, the leaked copy is an alpha of the os. this alpha was then hacked to unlock a lot of the unfinished features of the operating system to allow people to “see” what it might end up like in a years time.it’s not useable as a main OS, but it is fun to play with.

Memberwhere did i source my copy, it somehow appeared so to speak. But its the latest build6801 i think and is obviously issued for testing purposes.
As a main operating system definetly not as expected its very buggy. boot ups vary from straight in to flashing screen to a minute long black screen. When installing some of the samsung apps, they appeared to crash on install but after a reboot, they worked fine. Th version i have is a pdc build.
update works fine and you get the usal 120 days (using sl rearm command). but is timebombed for july next year
tbh after playing for 1 day, xp is back on. Its not that different from Vista for obvious reasons. Its worth a play but thats all at this early stage

MemberGot my NC10 yesterday from Tottenham Court Road in London, got it home and have Windows 7 (Beta Build 6801)running on it. I only need to sort out the LAN driver and get it seeing the rest of my machines on the LAN.
As for the install, ran it off a 4Gb mem stick and had it on there in 30 mins. Once I got it on-line (used my N95 via Buetooth Connection) I downloaded the updates and got it on line using the WiFi.
Gonna get the LAN running today and install Office 2007 & my usual day to day work apps.
