I am THIS CLOSE to buying the Samsung NC10 (that means very close) however I am having a real headache choosing between the black or the white models. (I’m ignoring the blue one that I think is a little odd with it’s black keyboard).
So what are people’s thoughts?
I am very happy to discover that PCWORLD have these in stock (allegedly all three colours?!) AND it’s free delivery which makes them cheaper than DABS, EBUYER and all the others I can think of!
Plus’s for the BLACK model: It won’t go out of fashion easily?
Plus’s for the WHITE model: It looks really nice and might look better if MAC OSX was installed on it?Minus’s for the BLACK model: It looks much more plain and “unspecial”
Minus’s for the WHITE model: It might fade with age? Look a bit girly?Really I need to see them in a shop but it seems there are none in the shops yet so am really just going off pictures which is why I’m asking people who already have them what they think 🙂
Thanks to the ADMIN for this site, I think as the Samsung NC10 is released more widely you will get A LOT of traffic along with great hacks etc. Looking forward to it

My colour decision, like most decisions in my life, was made by the Mrs. She said white was a bit “chavvy” not that I would use such a term myself. I was tempted by the blue but it looks like it won’t be out for another week or two and waiting this long was hard enough!!
Ive seen a white NC10 in currys almost two weeks ago and I thought it looked pretty cool, I regret slightly not just buying it then and there.
The front page poll suggest that black and blue are far and away favoured over the white model.

White for us, the little bits of chrome trim and blue l.e.d’s make it a little more thean just plain white, anyhow my excuse for being in the “chavvy” brigade is the deadline for getting one for my daughters birthday tomorrow and she wanted white (thankfully the one colour that was available!)
Does the black nc10 have that “mate” feel as the white one?
most of the photos I have seen in the web of the black (and blue) look more glossy…
I was just waiting to the black to be release to see what people would say…i think it is glossy rmc. the administrator will definitely be able to confirm this. i preordered the black one in hopes that i wouldnt mind the glossy look.
Yep its very glossy! It looks cool though, I am not disappointed by the look/feel at all.
Do you guys prefer the matt look then?
I have posted some pictures of the black nc10 here. I’ll be installing a gallery here at the weekend, but I plan for it to be driven by flickr and just bring in a stream with all pics with my tag. Makes it easy for others to contribute too I hope!
Black all the way for me, yes I would prefer it to not be glossy but that’s not a deal breaker for me. I have not actually seen a white one live though..
Right, quick update I think.
So, I’ve done the trip to PC World and Curry’s at Staples Corner (London for non UK peeps) and although PCW didn’t have any in stock, a worker there had their own white version and kindly showed me it. Very very nice is all I can comment. HOWEVER! It confirmed for me that I think I’d prefer the more “low key” approach of the black one…. a decision I MIGHT live to regret, but time will tell.
So, a 2 second walk to Currys and just in case anyone is looking to get one NOW they had one white one still in stock (no others). BTW, PCW said they expect an order of 20 in each blue, black and white to arrive on monday (17/11/2008).A side note: The PCW guy who showed me his own is a true master geek and had already installed 2GB ram AND Vista. Not a stunning achievment. However, he had a few tips. Firstly, for Vista install 2GB is needed. Second, a couple of Samsung drivers will be needed. Third (and this is the important one) if you leave vista to install graphics drivers, or use the samsung XP graphics drivers, Vista reports a user experience of a lowly 1.0. If you go to Intel’s website though and download the latest graphics driver from there (I think it’s a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950) then you can A). Use Vista Aero and B). get a user experience of 2.8! Not a bad achievement from a simple driver update!! Using the guy’s vista NC10 I was impressed at it’s speed and it didn’t seem to be slow at all, plus it was on aero, so food for thought.
Onto my next news. So, got home and as usual onto the net to look for any new news on the NC10’s and their lack of stock anywhere and low and behold Dixons (of all companies) apparently have both white and black in stock. (I always thought Dixons, Curry’s AND PCW were all the same group??). Anyways, so it’s at a really cheap price of £293.05. The best bit is if you enter “SAVE5” into the voucher code when purchasing, you get £5 off making the total come to £288.05!!! Oh and that’s free delivery included too 😀

Oh so the answer to my own question – I went for Black (and my opinion is I would have prefered it NOT to have been a glossy black outer case as my Toshiba 17″ laptop is glossy VERY VERY VERY dark blue and always has finger marks showing all over it so for that reason alone I prefer matte finish.

I’ve just placed my order for a back NC10 on Laptopshop.co.uk tonight, so I will be joining the rest of you very soon when it arrives next week.
Black or white still haven’t decided…
White does look cool and the mate finish looks great.
Black is also cool but it looks just like many other laptops, and the glossy top it is making my decision going for white
Would the white get too dirty? (I wash my hands regularly…)
does the fingerprints in the glossy top be irritating me all the time?

Jez I know you “handled” both, what is your feel? did I read somewhere in this forum that you regret not going for the white?No, Im happy with black all the way! I think someone did say that though as the finger printing was an issue for them. Unfortunately I really don’t remember much about how the white looked. I didnt know to pay attention to matt or gloss finish at the time lol!
From what I remember the white seems a bit smarter/flashier but the black seems less conspicuous (which suits me!). Of course everyone will have their own opinion on this topic! Try and get into a store and have a look!
