MemberHi Mark, good idea to have an introduction thread here. 🙂
I’m, err.. Becky lol. I’m 28 and live with my fiance of 10 years in Ipswich.
I’ve been interested in computers since I was 15 and ended up getting a job at PC World when I left school. Then after working in a call centre for the electricity board I moved into their I.T. department as internal frontline tech support. I really liked that job and wanted to go far, but had to leave due to ill heath and then the company got into financial trouble and ditched most of it’s staff anyway. I worked for the NHS briefly but have spent the last few years as a housewife, thus have way too much time on my hands. 😀

MemberI’ve noticed a few posts where links have been posted incorrectly lately, so I’m going to adjust those as and when I see them. 🙂
I’ll look out for any inappropriately-placed threads and move them accordingly. By unhelpful replies, do you mean posts like “Google it” or “The answer is elsewhere on this forum” etc? 😀 Or do you mean snotty ones?

MemberI too would like to ability to up the graphics memory. If we were able to do this, I would upgrade the ram to 2Gb, but there’s no reason for me to do so otherwise.
I also like the suggestion to disable BT with a hotkey. While you can disable it by fiddling with the software, that’s not very handy for people who use a BT device and want to switch the function on/off regularly.
In addition, it would be useful if they would fix the Samsung Update software.

MemberI find having a netbook handy for when I quickly want to check my email without booting up my main PC, or for surfing in bed or in front of the telly. I didn’t want to spend lots of money on a laptop for doing such simple tasks.
I also play a lot of budget indie games (match-3, seek-and-find etc) and the NC10 seems to handle these just fine.
I am particularly impressed with the battery life on the NC10 – I can spend a whole evening doing stuff without worrying if the battery is going to fail in the middle of something and even then there’s still 50% or more life left. I previously had a 17″ laptop which although lovely, I was lucky to get a couple of hours use out of and ended up carting the enormous power brick with me everywhere.

MemberJust tried Painkiller Overdose through Steam today. It won’t even start, generates a Direct3D error. I’ve reinstalled the graphics drivers and DirectX to no avail.

MemberI’ve had trouble with this too – sometimes I wonder why the cursor isn’t moving and it’s because my finger has left the touchpad! 😀
I think it has become better with use as my mind gets used to where everything is. That said, I use an external mouse, so I don’t use it very often.

MemberAudiosurf (through Steam) works fine, though it needs to be run at minimal settings and resolution for a smooth ride.
Becky
MemberDoesn’t happen on my blue one, lid moves around very smoothly and hasn’t left any marks on the battery. I second TheRing and recommend you send it back. If you have a Currys nearby, it may be worth asking if they’ll have a look at it and perhaps even arrange the exchange for you – DSG stores didn’t use to mix, but I think they’re more integrated now.

MemberInteresting, my local Staples only has a couple of cheap 7/8.9 inch netbooks. No sign of the sammy. I had another look in there today and didn’t see anything new. I guess they’re probably not getting a lot of stock of these with DSG buying most of them up, well done to you both for finding some.

MemberWelcome Frank! 🙂
Have you checked the timezone your account is set to? I think it defaults to something other than GMT so might be the reason some posts are dated incorrectly. Either that or someone here has got themselves a time machine. 😀

Memberlevelry, the memory shows up as a new drive and you can move your files on and off it as you would with any removable storage device. One thing several reviewers noted is that the transfer speed is extremely slow (more like USB 1.0) and I have to say I agree with them. I wouldn’t use it for regularly transferring large media files, but it’s handy for smaller documents and such.
I hope you get your NC10 earlier than expected. 🙂
