MemberHi Folks,
I have just joined up here as I was planning to buy a N510 in the next few days. Then I read the posts about the broken case to hinge joint issue and slow warranty response from Samsung and was put off. That’s a real pity if this is a common fault on such an apparently good product (in so many ways).
Hope to hear of some positive response from Samsung to this apparent design fault before I buy. I wonder if it is a very rare occurence or if many users have had the same problem.
Also, I wonder if it is worth waiting for Windows 7 version and how long will that be.

Cheers tintii .. did you ever get a replacement sorted?I’m worried the problem will just re-occur once it’s repaired or replaced! My mum just got an NC10 and it seems a lot more solid!
[/quote1264235625]Samsung have issued me a credit letter, now i just need to get the netbook back to the retailer and get a replacement… as much as i love samsung… im going for the hp mini 311.
Dont worry about the nc10, i know quite a few people who have one and its rock solid… and very good at handling mistreatment.

MemberWelcome to the forum, Ron1 🙂
As you say, it is a shame if the quality of the hinges on the N510 causes doubts to be cast on this capable netbook.
I suspect part of the perception of this matter is caused by the fact that the majority of people who post to a forum have a problem, question, or similar that they wish to resolve. Unless they have a particular interest, the people whose netbooks work out of the box just quietly get on with it. I would be interested in knowing the number of ‘problem hinges’ as a proportion of the total number of N510s sold.
To address your question about Windows 7. My understanding is that all new netbooks were now shipping with Windows 7 SE 😕

MemberHello to everybody, I’ve a question for anyone who possess this netbook. I brought one for me, after I saw it at my friend’s house, but reading about this problem is scaring me and my friend a little bit.
Could I ask everyone who possess this model about the manufacturing date in the bottom label of the netbook? The one of my friend says Nov 2009 (and it’s the Windows 7 version with 250gigs HD), mine too, I was wondering if there could be any relation between this problem and a particular batch or date (maybe they’ve fixed in the later models?)Thanks in advance to everybody!

Memberhi snakko,
my version was the august one (as far as i recall). came with xp and 160gb hdd. Maybe samsung have arranged their netbook since…
Remember, bad news travels faster than good. generally people with a working netbook will not say anything. Im just edgy about the n510 because both mine and my mate’s had the same problem.

MemberYeah my mate’s had an N510 since they came out, and his is perfectly fine.
The courier turned up as promised today, they didn’t specify a time but it was collected at just before 10am. I’m told it’ll be back in around 5 working days.

MemberSo far one of our netbooks has been away for 2 and a half weeks, the other for 2 weeks. Seems an interesting 5 working days.

MemberI sent my N510 in for repair on January 2nd, they received it on the 5th at 11:00am and still have it. They said they had to order a motherboard, order or make. Samsung said it would take about 2 weeks to repair. I live in Dallas, TX, the repair center is in Ft Worth, about 40 miles away. Samsung repair service is a joke. I can’t believe they don’t have all the necessary parts in house. My Dell went out, the next day a service repair man came with the parts and had me up and running in about 45 minutes, he installed a mother board, new ram and processor. I am really turned off by Samsung.

MemberI live in the UK, so we’ll see if it’s any different here :/
I’ll give them 5 working days, then I think I’ll chase them up.January 28, 2010 at 10:51 pm #205258skipper
MemberHere’s an update for ya. As I mentioned earlier, they’ve had my computer since January 5th. Today I called them and told them that I was tired of them holding me hostage and that time was up. Either pull a new machine off the shelf and send it or give my money back.
I’ll have a new machine in 7-15 days, still way too long. All said and done, I bought a new computer and used it for 3 weeks then in the shop for almost 4 weeks and then another 2 weeks to ship a new one. Something is very wrong with this picture.
If you need a higher up phone number, call the tech support and ask who you could talk to that can get something done. They’ll give you a customer service number. It wasn’t till I started talking to customer service did I finally get somewhere.
One more thing, the guys at the service center called today to tell me they had installed a motherboard but it was still slow, kind of like, what should we do now. I told them don’t worry about it, just keep it and do not send it back.January 29, 2010 at 9:34 pm #205288Riverpatrol
MemberYesterday my machine showed signs of the hinge going on the left side, I had to squeeze the plastic frame closed. I have used it for 6-7 weeks.

MemberI just checked my repair status online and it says ‘repair cancelled’ so I rang up and I was told it might not be possible to repair it under warranty, and that the service centre will call me about it. Doesn’t sound good…

Participantnodollaz – You might be getting a new machine or refund 🙂

Memberhey no dollarz,
I had the same problem. They told me that they couldnt repair it within a decent time. I would send an e-mail to the repair centre asking for an update regarding the product, I did the that and they gave me a credit letter which allows me to get the netbook replaced/refunded from the retailer.
