basically they’re going to keep the laptop for about 2 weeks. realise they cannot fix it. then send it back to you a month after that realization with a letter stating u can get a replacement from your original retailer. the problem is that if you bought from laptopsdirect (like me) you’ll never get through… the phone doesnt even righ :@… im at a loss… i cannot contact my retailer to give me a new netbook .. i spent 500 euros on this bloody thing
January 7, 2010 at 10:09 pm #205292vampugMemberHere is a copy of my review that I have posted on amazon.co.uk. It pretty much says it all.
I purchased this netbook in November. It has started developing a crack on left hand side where I pick it up. Samsung have deemed that this is a physical fault and therefore wont repair it under warranty. I have owned many notebooks and 2 netbooks and I have never seen a fault like this. I think that Samsung have skimped on materials to reduce weight and what could have been the best netbook around is let down by the build quality in my opinion. As for their support, well, knowing what I know now, I would never purchase another Samsung product.
I have been told that I can write a letter to Samsung and this is my only course of action. I beg to differ however. I will be adding my two cents to every review I can and I plan to post a video on youtube. I migh not get my netbook fixed under warranty, but I am sure I can convince a number of people not to buy an inferior product from a company that refuses to honour it’s warranty obligations.
January 8, 2010 at 12:49 am #205256skipperMembervampug,
My N510 is in the Samsung shop too, not a broken hinge but because it runs really slow. I just talked to Samsung tech support and asked who to write to if I wasn’t happy with the results. I didn’t get a name but they did say to scroll to the bottom of their web page and click contact. Since you’re in the UK, you probably have different contact info than here in the states. If you’re unhappy with the results, I would start a letter writing campaign, make some phone calls to find out who’s who at Samsung and write to them. Be nice but firm and remember the pen is mightier than the plow.
I’m like you, I can’t stand it when big corporations rip me off.January 8, 2010 at 7:13 am #205264shakenfrMemberWell It seems that the hindes problem is a conception defaut because it happends for so many people that it’s not a coincidence. Here in France it’s strange because it’s now impossible to buy a N510 (out of stock everywhere…coincidence ?) I suggest that someone can centralize the complains (name, invoice, description of the problem signed document) , after it will be difficult for Samsung not applying the warranty ! It can help people Samsung won’t apply the warranty because it seems sometimes they apply the warranty for the same problem.
January 8, 2010 at 7:20 am #205276tintiiMemberI think its more a case where they should recall the product. Clearly it turned out to be faulty. re warranty they seem to be giving out letters that state you can get a replacement… frankly, i havent had issues with samsung relating to the source of the problem, they just accepted it (probably knowing that the problem exists), samsung are just so damn slow when it comes to customer care… which is why i’ve been waiting so long.
January 11, 2010 at 3:44 pm #205302asiayeahMemberI am extremely disappointed with Samsung.
I’ve only used my N510 for 3 weeks and the hinge was broken! Now the machine has been sent for repair for 3 weeks already. Today, I call them 5 or 6 times and they finally admit there’s a “small” batch of their n510 products with the hinge defects! And they can only have the component to fix my hinge in another 2 weeks!
I am going to ask for a full refund tomorrow and buy another brand.
January 11, 2010 at 3:47 pm #205224TCMuffinMemberWelcome to the forum, asiayeah 🙂
I’m sorry to hear of the problems with your N510 and the difficulty you’ve had getting it repaired 🙁
I know it’s no consolation to you, but the vast majority of members of this forum who have had problems with their netbooks have experienced good to excellent customer services from Samsung.
January 11, 2010 at 3:55 pm #205303asiayeahMemberTheir services in Hong Kong sucks. I’ve called their service centers many times and they are unable to tell me when I can have my netbook fixed. Last week, they’ve mentioned it would be ready by end of last week. Today, they told me they need another 2 weeks!
Funny enough, the service centers even told me they were unable to contact their Samsung counterparties to find out when they could get new components! Eventually they are so desperate that they just gave me another phone number to call myself! I cannot imagine a world-class company can offer such unacceptable customer services.
Do we know if there’s any complain hotline in their headquarters?
On the other hand, I may just dump Samsung. I’ll try to ask for a refund tomorrow.
I’ve even asked them if I can buy a new n510 with no such defect. They said they are NOT sure where I can get a new n510 with no defect. It sounds like all of their n510 have the defects or they simply have no idea which batches of n510 have the issues. If you are going to buy a new Samsung netbook, will you risk buying one any more?
January 19, 2010 at 4:00 pm #205327sys171Member2 of our 32 N510’s have gone that way too
(Now gone up to 7 out of 32 which is just rediculous)
January 19, 2010 at 4:29 pm #205300externo6Memberfingers crossed there aint may more cases of this…
January 22, 2010 at 10:55 pm #205309nodollazMemberMy case is coming apart (left hinge area) every time I open the lid :O(
I’ve contacted Samsung via their website and they’re sending a courier to collect it Monday. I also mentioned the wireless range problem. They said they’d keep it no longer than about 5 working days.
… I hope it doesn’t matter too much that I’ve wiped the HDD and put W7 on there!
January 22, 2010 at 11:09 pm #205277tintiiMemberit makes no difference whatsoever if you have windows 7 on it ;)… they never mentioned anything to me when i returned it with win 7.
January 22, 2010 at 11:17 pm #205310nodollazMemberCheers tintii .. did you ever get a replacement sorted?
I’m worried the problem will just re-occur once it’s repaired or replaced! My mum just got an NC10 and it seems a lot more solid!
January 22, 2010 at 11:21 pm #205239jeepers01Participantnodollaz – Hope the warranty return is completed quickly and efficiently.
Let us know how you get on.
January 22, 2010 at 11:29 pm #205311nodollazMember.. will do jeepers01 🙂
