I am still having no luck with Samsung. I have now made a seconf video on the problem and will be calling them on Monday. The two videos I posted can be found …

and this video is clearer …

Long gone are the days where the customer is always right and this engineer kept insinuating that this problem could only occur if it was dropped or something untoward happened to it.
January 31, 2010 at 8:13 pm #205315nodollazMemberThanks I’m a little less worried now 🙂
February 5, 2010 at 11:17 am #205281tintiiMemberi’ve finally gotten my netbook replaced! (after 2 months of waiting for people to reply..)… it should be shipped out today or tomorrow.
I just want to say that samsung tech support took 1 month to provide me with the credit letter (could be due to holiday season, so i’ll let that pass).
My retailer, after redirecting me to samsung 4 times, finally replaced the netbook… with an hp. (i dont trust the n510 anymore)
the lesson to be learned: before you rma, make sure you have all your paper work. i.e. if you’re going to get a replacement from your retailer, you’ll require some sort of confirmation that the product is faulty and is to be replaced. the credit letter contains an authorization number which is used by the retailer to get the netbook replaced/refunded from the manufacturer. Having this letter is the difference between lousy customer service and a more decent, human service.
Thanks guys for your feedback 🙂
February 5, 2010 at 11:27 am #205241jeepers01Participanttintii – Glad it all worked out in the end, albeit slow as it was.
How does the HP compare? Are you pleased with it?
February 5, 2010 at 11:29 am #205282tintiiMemberhavent received it as yet. hopefully it will be in next week. i’ll post an update when it arrives 🙂
February 5, 2010 at 3:22 pm #205226TCMuffinMemberThank you for reporting back, tintii 🙂
February 5, 2010 at 11:18 pm #205316nodollazMemberI called digicare (who repair for Samsung in the UK) and they are VERY difficult to get through to owing to their dumb automated phone system that doesn’t allow you to hold for very long…
On the morning Wednesday 3rd Feb I finally got through and was told that the entire outer casing would need to be replaced but there was no mention of the short-range wireless. The guy said he would email Samsung about this and ring me back later that day all being well. I’m still waiting and it’s now been 10 working days since they collected it.
February 8, 2010 at 12:52 am #205317nodollazMemberRang Samsung today to check on progress. Apparently they’re waiting on parts (the entire outer casing) and I should have it back in 3-5 working days. Zzzzz!
February 9, 2010 at 10:22 am #205329sys171MemberIn my 32 N510’s there are now 10 of the same faults. Due to the high number we needed evidence of the fault occurring elsewhere as they have had “no other reported incidents” subsequently google-ed “Samsung n510 h” and the suggested results were “Samsung n510 hinge†at 4670 results and “Samsung n510 hinge problem†at 1450 results. Surely this should give Samsung some indication of the problem!
However there is one piece of good news! One N510 has returned after 6 weeks.February 9, 2010 at 10:31 am #205318nodollazMemberUpdate: I had a call from Digicare yesterday, who told me I would have the netbook back by Friday…
February 9, 2010 at 6:03 pm #205283tintiiMemberit seems this problem has reached many netbook forums/websites…

February 10, 2010 at 2:54 pm #205330sys171MemberThis is just getting unbelievable! There have now been 11 different netbooks with the same hinge problem that’s one third of the total that we have. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they all did it at some point, most are showing early signs of splitting the case and need to be clipped back in at regular intervals.
It looks as if there has been a problem defiantly with the initial batch of the N510’s. However Samsung are still insisting that there are no other similar cases. I wonder if they have heard of Google? Judging by the posts before with 4670 results of “Samsung N510 hinge problem†they have not. Along with the other post in this forum and similarly on the other blogs around the net.
February 10, 2010 at 5:26 pm #205319nodollazMemberI’m wishing I’d gone for something cheaper instead of trying to be flashy now, a bit like this trusty old Dell D610 I’m using to put me on, lol!! Even disregarding the build-flaws, the N510 didn’t fare too well in this Ion netbook shootout.. http://blog.laptopmag.com/ion-netbook-shootout
February 10, 2010 at 9:14 pm #205255fingermanMemberI was using a D610 until the vga card started going and would ramdomly go blue or green, then the HDD would be noisier than the TV!! Now got a works D630 – still a bag of £&^( tho !
Anyway I loved my N510 and never had any issues with the hinge – just wish I had a decent graphics chipset in me Asus 😕
February 11, 2010 at 7:48 pm #205320nodollazMemberFingerman, don’t you fancy the Asus 1201N?
