MemberMy Samsung N510 has the same fault. Only one month old never been dropped probably only opened and shut 40 times. All the brass inserts that hold the hinge into the top (keyboard side) of the base have pulled out and the surrounding plastic on mounting pillars has fractured. The right hand side was the 1st to go shortly followed by the left hand side. Screen always was a bit stiff to open but there is no user adjustment without dismantling the whole thing. Will start a warranty claim next week. Hopefully they will let me keep the hard drive.

ParticipantAnoraknid – Welcome to the forum and sorry to learn that you also have the hinge problem.
Let us know how you get on with Samsung Support and hope it’s resolved quickly.

[/quote1262430202]That’s dreadful service. I trust you have complained at the highest level and I would demand an immediate replacement!
Which service department is handling your warranty issue?January 2, 2010 at 11:07 am #205274tintii
Memberdigicare. but its not them who are the problem as they just wait for instructions…. its the inability to contact the so called ‘escalation team’. its incredible… samsung are very reluctant to do anything :@

MemberMy case is cracked and the crack is getting bigger. I have to admit that I have been fairly dissapointed with this netbook and I probably wont buy another Samsung again – I think I will go back to the Acer (at least they are robust). Once the case cracked it is very easy to see how thin the plastic really is and in my opinion, with the design of the corners, I think that this will be a recurring problem. I would like to add that this netbook was not dropped or manhandled either, it has just cracked over a period of time and anyone who lifts the netbook from either side, rather that with both hands is likely to have this problem.
I also found that this netbook, running Windows 7 lite and XP Pro lite is no faster during startup than my 8.9″ AspireOne with it’s N270 processor. It does play games reasonably well using the Nvidia technology. I found that the when the netbook is not plugged in, it can drop the wireless connection. This seems to be a powersaving feature, but I cannot find a way to disable this. Maybe when newer drivers come out, this will be resolved/resolvable (I had a similar problem with the Acer, but after a few driver releases, all niggly problems sorted themselves out – I live in hope)

Participantvampug – Welcome to the forum
You can turn off Power Saving in the Advanced Properties of the Atheros driver, reached from Device Manager.

Hope this helps

MemberYip, if my netbook had an atheros card, that would probably work. However, this n510 has a realtek RTL8192E. Thanks for the tip though, it was one of the many places I looked. I am sure with a the newer drivers, it might become available for the Realtek, but not with the drivers I am using.
PS How do I add a picture as I would like to attach a pic or 2 of my N510 where you can see the growing crack. It is currently about 1.5″ and growing.

MemberDon’t have any problems with mine at present (touch wood!) no dropping of wifi or cracks!
Think I’m using the latest Realtek drivers – 1679.3.1207.2009 and there’s no power save mode in the device manager

MemberRather than wait for an authorised repair and risk lack of N510 for weeks I used an ABS plastic repair kit. I rebuilt the mounting points around the brass inserts and added a touch of silicone lubricant on the hinges to reduce the forces. Only time will tell if this was the right option for me. I am being super careful when opening and shutting it.

Mine is the Realtek and there is an option to turn powersave off. Right-click, on the Realtek in device manager .. choose properties and then power managment.January 7, 2010 at 3:17 pm #205263shakenfr
MemberI sent my N510 to Samsung for the hinges problem. I hope the reparation will be definitive but how make it definitive if it’s a conception problem ?
Anyone sent back to Samsung ? Any feedback for the repair ? -
