ParticipantCasey – Welcome to the forum and glad you are enjoying your NC10 🙂

Participanttrackrat – Welcome to the forum.
Enjoy your new N140 when it arrives 🙂

Participantfingerman – If you do get one I’d be interested in hearing your impressions.
My daughter was set on the Seashell about 4 months ago and I convinced her to get the N140 instead.
Here’s hoping that there will be no humble pie involved 😀

Participantyackal – Welcome to the forum
There is another guide here which contains detailed disassembly instructions for the NC10 but the same principles apply for your model.
Hope this helps and let us know how you get on

ParticipantJayne – Thanks for the translation but I had left my post link uncorrected since dosibox had updated his OP to include the revised English translation link which also includes all the relevant images.
I have also undertaken to assist in writing parts 6 & 7, as requested by bohlendach and dosibox, so the intention is to publish a revised guide both on this forum and the French forum. 🙂
Edit: I see the images have appeared. You must have been editing your post as I was writing this 🙂

ParticipantFaktados – Good luck with the exercise.
These pin-outs might help target the possible offending pins.
Let us know how it goes.

ParticipantUpdate:
SRS application Full Backup to external hdd – results of test.Continuing from the backup screen in my last post this is the sequence of events.
After naming the backup, SRS requests a re-boot and this is the ensuing sequence:-
1. “Windows is loading files” is displayed
2. SRSIII program is started
3. “Backup settings complete, start backup Y/N”
4. “There are multiple windows drives. SRS will back up only C: drive. Continue Y/N”
5. “Backup file exists. Existing Backup file will be overwritten. Continue Y/N”Note, the existing backup was taken before I converted the machine to dual boot.
The backup then proceeded and in my case it was a 19.6MB backup at 10.02MB/sec which took about 33 minutes.
The backup completed successfully.
Conclusions.
1. The backup process still works with an incorrect MBR (dual booting XP/Win 7) and is therefore not dependant on a ‘Fixed’ MBR or the original MBR.
2. After re-booting to start the process it does not boot through windows XP or Win 7 as per normal, and it is probably using the SRS program contained in the recovery partition to perform the backup process.Hope this helps someone 🙂

ParticipantAlfihar – It is not necessary to start into the recovery partition to do a full recovery on a normally operating machine that has a standard configuration as the SRS application will perform the necessary routines independently.
You have now brought into the discussion the installation onto a clean hard drive with a different OS, which is an entirely different scenario. It is reasonable to expect the SRS application to check the recovery partition before offering a restore selection but in normal operation it will offer only the external media backup as the restore option from the selection menu if the restore partition is missing.
Equally it is probably to be expected that the SRS application will check for the recovery partition when carrying out the application installation given that it is expecting to see a hard drive build similar to the initial machine setup.
I don’t have the custom MBR installed, as I am dual booting, so I will check that the SRS backup functions without it.

Participant[quote1264272661=Alfihar][quote1264269139=jeepers01]ERM provides switching between 1024×600 and 1024×768 pixels resolution.[/quote1264269139]
Hmm I thought with the automatic interface (not the one linked in the start menu) it offered one more higher resolution when you connect it to an external display. I shall have to check that the next time I do that.EDIT: Ah I see, wrong application, that function was provided by the Easy Display Manager (EDM miniUI). I’m not sure whether you get that resolution via EDM if ERM isn’t installed though.[/quote1264272661]1024×768 is the slightly higher res that you couldn’t remember in your posting.
For external displays the resolution is not limited to 1024×768 but can go a lot higher. That said the lcd screen resolution can be set to a maximum of 1152×864 in Win 7 but this is not controlled by ERM and is a function of the correct display driver being installed.Quote:[quote1264269139=jeepers01]Recovery Solution will allow the making of backups and does not rely on the recovery partition. Don’t you have to restart into the recovery partition to do a full backup though?Quote:I remember at-least with SRS3 some people got stuck at a blank screen at boot as they tried to make a backup without the custom MBR.EDIT: I thought that you could only install Recovery Solution if a recovery partition was present?
SRS3 or SRS4 is independant and backups taken to external media are restorable. When SRS is run with the external media present, a selection menu is presented which allows the choice of either your backup or the recovery partition initial status to be restored (if it is present).

I remember at-least with SRS3 some people got stuck at a blank screen at boot as they tried to make a backup without the custom MBR.This is where the MBR has become corrupted, usually by other OS installs, and the F4 at boot recovery option no longer functions. However backups taken with the SRS application are restorable and this will be useful in the event of F4 not working as long as the sammy OS is still functioning.
For an unbootable machine with the recovery partition present, the best option is to use the Admin Tool to fix the MBR enabling a full restore with F4 at boot.
The main limitation with the SRS application is that it will only back up the C: drive contents and is therefore of limited value for a dual boot system on both C: and D: drives.
Hope this helps

*Easy Resolution manager = Enables support for interpreted display resolutions, useful if you need to use 1024×600 (or a slightly higher res that I can’t remember). i would install it.
[/quote1264264966]ERM provides switching between 1024×600 and 1024×768 pixels resolution.

*Recovery Solution = Only if you kept the recovery partition and even then I wouldn’t bother with it.
Recovery Solution will allow the making of backups and does not rely on the recovery partition. This is only needed for the F4 at boot recovery option.
