MemberThey’ve certainly categorised their forum very similarly. They’re also leeching one of my photos in the slideshow on the front page from flickr.

MemberI’m very happy with the XP Codec Pack which uses Media Player Classic. 🙂
Becky
MemberYes, I disabled it with only the default 1Gb of RAM to see how it affected performance, though to be honest I didn’t really tax my system. The most obvious result for me was sluggishness when browsing with lots of tabs open, especially if they contained multimedia content. This was greatly improved when I upgraded to 2Gb of RAM.
You will obviously gain a bit of disk space, possibly improve battery life slightly and may experience faster performance from disabling the virtual memory. However, your NC10 may struggle on memory-hungry applications if you only have the default 1Gb installed.

I imagine you don’t get too busy at night then, unless there’s a major problem with the service?
Hubby works for NHS Direct. He’s just got home and told me it was a surprisingly quiet shift. He’ll probably have a belated beer for New Year and head to bed. 😀

MemberHubby gets almost double pay on public holidays and Sundays, with enhancements for evenings and nights as well.
What field are you working in if you don’t mind me asking?
Becky
MemberMy hubby’s working too, though he will be home shortly. We both used to work nights, Christmas and New Years always paid very well. 😀

MemberWelcome Ron. I too have disabled my virtual memory after upgrading and the Sammy runs very smoothly. 🙂

MemberWelcome Hotcob10. 🙂

MemberI agree with kadath, the Sammy doesn’t tend to suffer from heat problems. I use it in bed (sat on the duvet or a pillow) and though it warms up a bit, it’s never been worryingly hot.
If you’d still prefer to keep the heat to an absolute minimum, look up passive laptop coolers on google and you’ll find plenty. A powered cooler would probably be overkill for something like the NC10.
The biggest problem I’ve had with finding a good work surface (cooler or not) for the NC10 is size – nobody seems to make anything for netbooks yet and a lot of them are enormous in comparison. Make sure you find something that’s suited for small laptops, 12 inch if possible though these are getting harder to find as regular laptops get bigger.
