Here is a link to the website above but translated using Google Translater from German to English.
I stumbled across this “Die Samsung Netbook Community” (ring any bells?) by accident and there are some serious similarities with this website. I am not accusing anybody of copying anything but I am simply pointing out the obvious similarities.
An example of this – have a look at the structure of the forum. To say it is similar is a gross understatement!
I guess you should be flattered… maybe…

They’ve certainly categorised their forum very similarly. They’re also leeching one of my photos in the slideshow on the front page from flickr.
It certainly looks a little similar, the forum is a similar layout but to be honest almost every forum no matter which particualr subject they are based upon disussing look very alike.
Not being very well up on German it is hard to say whether there is any plagiarism going on, the news articles on this site are general and widely available on the net so it is open season on them I would guess. There does seem to be more commercial stuff on the front page of the German doppleganger.
I suppose if it serves a service for the German speakers similar to the benefit we get on here then it is all for the common good of spreading the word and the increasing the knowledge base of the NC10.
It’s name and web address is a bit too close to this site but there is probably little that could be done about that.There is a saying on imitation and flattery but I suppose it all depends on the thoughts Jez has about it.
Just noticed the sammynetbook shop, powered by amazon.de tell them you want a cut Jez lol!

hehe good spot, I am actually flattered that they used my name! I did consider buying the co.uk and the .net but then I realised I wasn’t that bothered. If this was some uber profitable business then I would be. But for the sake of 1 or 2 netbook sales every now and then it’s not really worth defending. That’s the joy of running a site for fun – you can’t really “lose”.
As it is focused on German traffic it isn’t really competing anyway, and I look forward to seeing how they have incoporated the NC20 – inspiration can work both ways 🙂
I’ll see if I can get in touch (if the owner speaks English!) and say “hi”. It would be nice to link to each other and share info. I think the net is stronger when bloggers/communities work together – check out UMPC, JK etc and their friends. By working together they have ensured that any big commercial beasts can’t muscle in.
tbh if the “Sammy” nick takes off and gains more recognition then it should help the site. I can brand it “the original” (and best!). Actually that site looks pretty slick.

Reminds me of when the Guardian website linked to an image on a certain image board, which was then changed to a rather unsuitable image.I’ve just registered and said hello. In English! Looking at the site it looks like a genuine effort and that it was originally called MySammy.de. So perhaps the owner thought a change of name might help. My biggest search keywords are Sammy Netbook so the “brand” must be recognisable now! But almost all of those searches are from returning vistors so they know what they are looking for!
Hopefully the owner will get in touch, it will be nice to swap info especially as our target traffic will be very different – no reason to feel threatened. And it’s always polite to ask before borrowing pics etc. I see he’s used my updates screenie too! Time to stamp them .COM!
The traffic on this site is 90% from the UK and US for obvious reasons with the other 10% from NL/FR/IT mostly.
Oh and he’s found a good WP theme there – good spot, I’ve been looking for something like that.
I’ve found another NC10 site Jez, in German again (of course, what else! lol) doesn’t seem very popular though.
