MemberI’ve finally received my mini 311. Build quality seems superior to the n510. the lcd is a bit brighter, but has a slightly irritating reflective screen. the touchpad is ok. nothing fancy, has multitouch support, but tends to have too much friction at times.
The keyboard is awesome. incredibly comfortable, windows key in the correct (left) place. the arrow keys are not cluttered with the pgup/pgdown keys.
Speed. I’d say its about the same as the n510, although it doesn benefit from being able to support 3gb ddr3 ram.
It runs windows 7 without a problem. All drivers are available online.
i havent tested the battery life yet. once i have some results, i’ll post.
Cheers.

MemberSounds cool! My N510 was returned (surprisingly) on Friday but I wasn’t in lol. Looks like Ill have to sit in all day Monday on my day off, waiting for the courier.

MemberLeft hand hinge loose on mine too, well it’s actually the misses netbook but noticed it this evening during the rare moments I am allowed to use it.
When I quizzed her about it she hadn’t even realised, and when I quizzed her if there were any other problems she said the wireless keeps dropping on it. I see this appears to be another common problem.
I am going to give my local sammy service center a call tomorrow to see what they say.

MemberUpdate: the courier (DPD) f*cked up and I waited in all day for nothing, brilliant. Finally I should have it back Wednesday after they promised me a ‘before 10am’ delivery. Jeez what an experience buying a Samsung is turning out to be, lol!!

MemberI am new to this forum and new to the n510. Seems netbooks in general are prone to at least small design problems due to size constraints. This is my third netbook model and my favorite so far. My other netbooks had more serious problems than this “hinge” failure issue. I have disassembled the unit to assess the problem and there is no problem with the hinge itself and is very unlikely to ever fail. The problem is that the screen when fully open pushes the lower half of the case away from the upper, while the screen hinge stays firmly attached to the upper half of the case. There is only one single metal screw screwed up from the bottom into the upper plastic case threads preventing the case from separating. Thread lock may prevent this separation from happening if the plastic threads are still good. Otherwise filing the stripped threads with plastic welder epoxy and pre-drillling the hole before resetting the screw should fix the problem. To correct the design samsung simply has to convert the upper case screw socket by adding a threaded metal sleeve in the socket to prevent the threads from easily stripping. This should eliminate the problem for most people in the future.

MemberThere’s no way I expected to pay £400 for the pleasure of fixing Samsungs design fault myself. However, this hasn’t put me off Samsung completely, my mums NC10 is fine.
I got my N510 back yesterday (Tuesday) from the couriers, despite them agreeing on Wednesday .. it’s a good job someone was in! Digicare have wiped my HDD and installed Windows 7 Home Premium (I sent it back running Ultimate), re-arranged my paritions and wiped all my files .. nice one! Apparently they tested the wireless N, which still has a shorter range than my PC and the 2 other laptops in the house which all have wireless G??

MemberTrue, for the money it should be flawless. But some may opt for a simple 20 minute fix versus being without the device for a month or more. Was worse with my gigabyte touchnote purchased for $750.00 but motherboard failed in 2 months; and when sent in for warranty manufacturer kept it for 2 months without any communication or returned phone calls. Had to go back to the retailer for a refund eventually.

MemberYikes!! Well yeah, I guess it can happen with anything. I’m sure if I looked at other netbook/laptop forums, I can probably find plenty of people who’ve experienced problems with whatever make/model they bought too.

MemberI believe that the os was wiped to the original state so they can be sure that the os was installed correctly and the software was functional. Hopefully you backed up your data.
As for other samsung products. I know for a fact that the other netbooks work fine and have a great build quality. It still doesnt change the fact that the only 2 samsung notebooks (an old v20, and the n510) both broke down after a month.

MemberI’m not sure, as it had XP on when I bought it. Thankfully I did backup my files 🙂

MemberMine had just failed. Left hand hinge has popped out, screws have broken/come away form the plastic mounts. I use it quite a bit while travelling and am very careful with it. This is NOT abuse. I can’t afford to be without it for a month or more so I’ll try the DIY fix

MemberHad an N510 for approx. 4 1/2 months, noticed a slight difference in the level of the 2 hinges a week ago and now the entire back of the case acts the same as in the above video.
Bought on amazon via a 3rd party seller so will see how the return goes..
