MemberUSB has four wires. Power and ground. Also + data and a – data lines. The outer pins on the USB are power. Use a meter to test.
Soldering is straight forward. Buy a very low wattage iron <15w and a 1mm bit and 22swg solder.Research at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus

MemberHi, Got my NC20 last June and wiped the drive straight away. Put on the beta Win7 and worked fine. A week later the RC of Win7 was released and that went straight on. Took the laptop to Australia too. Still running fine and the Win 7 drivers are finally on the Samsung site for download. Also installed 2Gb Ram as well.

MemberYep, just swap over 🙂
That’s a good price, paid over £250 (or more, memory at this time of night) for 32GB some years ago. Just check that you want the MLC (multi level cell)
2.5″ drive with a sata interface, for laptops.

MemberDo you have an external DVD drive to use?
If not you will need a bootable USB memory stick, 4Gb will do. Copy Win 7 files to the USB stick. Also d/load the Wlan and Lan drivers.I think if I was going to upgrade I would try a 32/64 Gb SSD. Do you need a larger disc drive?

MemberMight be a normal XP glitch. Try shutting down the PC first, then when you restart / power on it should start up ok. Coming out of sleep / hibernation may not work perfectly.

MemberSandisk 4GB Titanium Cruzer works ok for me as a bootable drive, has Win 7 on it. As previously mentioned it needs to be reformatted and set to Boot condition (not the BIOS, but the USB memory unit) by software mentioned in these forums, I think it was called Bart PE, but not sure, google “USB Boot Drive”

[/quote1257199052]Aero is fine. Also get the NC10 Win7 drivers where there is a match ie NC10 NC20 drivers and hardware are the same.

just wanted to say a quick thanks to whc for the driverpack. Im waiting on my dvd to arrive any day now for a clean install.. !!
[/quote1256898503]Why?? just copy the Win 7 files to a 4GB memory stick. You need to format the stick to bootable condition.

MemberRe old drive you can pickup a £5.00 cable kit from Maplins to turn into a 3.5″ plug for a standard desktop PC IDE. Ask for a serial converter cable if the drive is serial.

MemberRight click Run as Administrator. Works fine on two Win 7 netbooks N20, N140.

MemberMemory maybe same speed/type. Offer up the memory card to the slot and check the physical size and pin count.
Re hard drive again should fit , you will have to remove the existing one though. They are only 60 – 120 GB in the Q45, why would you want to remove the new 160GB drive?? The OS and chipset would need to be upgrade to the N140 as well or restore Win XP….totalsolutions
MemberHaving a bit of trouble with the Realtek WLAN drivers ATM. It does not support WPA, but is ok with WEP and No security on the router. All works in Win XP as supplied so dunno what’s the problem. Just hoping for the Windows 7 driver release/update soon. Also works with the Realtek LAN drivers + ethernet cable.

MemberHi, Do you already have a desktop / other laptop with DVD drives, because you can use those when nearby with networking/share drive and then map a drive easy to do. OR if you have two PC’s with Window 7 you can do it by using the new HomeGroup features.

MemberThe sound from any built in speakers would be dreadful, however using a half decent over ear headset will bring up the sound quality no end. For higher levels take a lead from the “headphones out” to your home stereo unit.
