The N110 would handle all the office applications, but it only just meets the minimum processor speed for Visual Studio:
“1.3. Hardware Requirements:
-
*Minimum: 1.6 GHz CPU, 384 MB RAM, 1024×768 display, 5400 RPM hard disk
*Recommended: 2.2 GHz or higher CPU, 1024 MB or more RAM, 1280×1024 display, 7200 RPM or higher hard disk “The N110 should also be OK with Eclipse, but this depends on the number and type of plugins it comprises.
And of course the main advantage of the N110 is that if you buy one – the forum comes free

So who is still around? ๐

At the moment me and thee ๐Freddy and dougp seem to have dropped off the face of the earth and I suspect Steve is on his hols.
+1 jeepers – very knowledgeable and friendly – a shoe-in.
Tony also seems a good chap and the only other name I’d throw in the ring is dockehr – not so technical but very friendly and measured and from the US – so would maintain the mods transatlantic flavour ๐

I was wondering whether an in-place upgrade was possible. I suspect I’ll do a clean install, but it’s good to know an upgrade is possible.

MemberAs far as I know, yes, they are identical. However, to be sure you may wish to contact Samsung Customer Services.

Will this game run?
[/quote1251932339]
Let me thinkTheoretically, yes:
*The NC10 has 1 GB RAM which is ~8 x the minimum requirement of 128 MB RAM
*The NC10 has a 1.6 GHz processor which is ~7 x the minimum requirement of a 233 MHz processor
*The NC10 has a 160 GB HDD, so the minimum requirement of 250 MB HDD is only ~0.16% of the total HDD capacity.
*The NC10 uses shared memory so it can take up to 256 MB of the computers RAM, so a 4 MB requirement should not be a problem as it’s only ~1.6% of the total graphics memory capability.
As long as your game will run under Windows XP and doesn’t require a CD/DVD drive, it shouldn’t be a problem ๐TCMuffin

MemberI’ve installed the regular version of Karmic and it’s fine. I tried Mint and found it really rather slow and clunky.

I can walk through the park with my mobile safe in the knowledge that people will mistake me for a tree and therefore not notice my stealworthy shiney gadget.

MemberHi Fifi
Try entering the BIOS (by pressing F2 during the boot sequence) and set the “Brightness Mode Control” from “Auto” to “User Control” ๐

I would have thought that as long as your NC10 is under warranty, then Samsung have to repair a manufacturing fault.I would contact Samsung and say “The problem seems to be intermittent, as currently the screen is working OK. You are concerned that they may not find a manufacturing fault and charge you for the repair. Ask them what they suggest you do.”
Good luck

This could of course be down to the Theorem of Threes

Good read, jeepers01, thank you ๐The queueing theory stuff reminds me of one of my jobs in a past life. In 1987, I joined the Computer Performance Management Group which provided a capacity planning and performance management consultancy service to all BTรขโฌโขs mainframe computer centres. We used queueing network modelling software (BGS’s BEST/1) to analyse MVS performance monitor data (CAPTURE/MVS) from IBM 38xx series mainframes. Interesting stuff and great fun. Happy memories ๐
