I’ve a Toshiba laptop that is over 20 years old
[/quote1266526717]
Which has been in daily use since 1989 ๐In 1999, I reluctantly retired my Dell laptop which I’d bought for more than รยฃ4,000 in 1995 and which had a 12 inch colour screen, 24 Mb RAM and a 500 Mb HDD.
How can you compare this with a รยฃ300 netbook with 1 Gb RAM and 160 Gb HDD ๐
[EDIT] By the way, several months ago I found one of the feet off my NC10 on my desk and I stuck it back on with SuperGlue – and I didn’t bother with degreasing!
TCMuffinMemberI bought a 9-cell 7800 mAh from http://www.laptop-adapters.co.uk. The cost was รยฃ35.21 + รยฃ4.87 p&p = รยฃ40.08. I ordered the battery on 14 January and it arrived on 26 January from Hong Kong. The customs form was marked as gift and, so far, I haven’t been charged import VAT nor the importer’s (Royal Mail) handling charge.
I’ve now used the new battery for about three weeks and I’m getting about 7 hours battery life. I use a BT wireless mouse, have the screen brightness turned up to maximum, and I have the wireless network connection permanently turned on and connected.

Have you tried Alfihar’s fix ๐TCMuffinMember[quote1266525465=jasoN_mcallister]
Just out of curiousity, what would you use the blutooth for?
[/quote1266525465]
Bluetooth (BT) mouse ๐Connection (i.e. synchronisation) with BT smart phone ๐
BT headphones ๐
BT speakers ๐
TCMuffinMember[quote1266525200=jasoN_mcallister]
Just be careful what sites you visit, emails you open from people you don’t know etc. You can use clamwin and that is a great program for antivirus that won’t be taking up resources.

FWIW Microsoft Security Essentials is also quite light weight ๐TCMuffinMember[quote1266523963=Fat Controller]
Next to search for a decent 7800 MAh battery – is there a recommended UK one?
[/quote1266523963]
Depends how much you want to pay ๐Initially I looked to buy a UK sourced 7800 mAh battery….but the average cost was ~รยฃ50 + p&p – which cost up to another รยฃ10!.
On recommendation from another forum member, I ordered a replacement battery from the USA. I ordered one on the morning 14 January 2010 for $51.25. With the current exchange rate applied by PayPal, I was charged รยฃ32.33 including international p&p:
This seemed like an absolute bargain as UK suppliers charge ~รยฃ50 and then add p&p (which in one case was รยฃ10!).
I checked the HMR&C website and, because the value of the goods imported is > รยฃ18, it seems I’d have to pay import VAT @17.5% รขโฐห รยฃ5.66 + the handling charge added by the importer. If the importer is Royal Mail, the handling charge is รยฃ8, so the total price I’d have to pay should be ~รยฃ46 which is still cheaper than buying it in the UK.
Another forum member suggested I buy a 9-cell 7800 mAh from http://www.laptop-adapters.co.uk.

I’ve got a 500 gb hard drive to install
[/quote1265995740]
I’ve upgraded the HDD on my NC10 to a 500Gb Seagate Momentus 7200.4 HDD with G-Force Protection. Instructions for upgrading the Samsung NC10’s Hard Drive should help you install your 500 Gb HDD.[quote1265995740=markevans135]
windows 7 ultimate…How can i install without a dvd drive? i’ve got one on order, but can i do it via usb stick?? if so, how!!??
[/quote1265995740]
You need access to a CD/DVD drive on another computer which you use to create a USB boot drive from your Windows 7 DVD (load it on a USB stick). You then need to enter your Sammy’s BIOS (by pressing the F2 key as your Sammy is starting) and make the USB stick the first boot device.

I’ve go the nc10 with the built in sim card slot, and want to use my “3” network simcard, i see from the forum that i will need to install samsungs own conection manager software for it to work, but can’t find a version of that on the samsung website for windows 7??
[/quote1265995740]
I’d be inclined to ask Samsung technical support about this – unless another forum member knows how to install Samsung’s connection manager software ๐Hope that helps ๐

You could use an external monitor to see if it is booting up ๐[quote1265840037=Domino]
Does anyone know if it’s it easy to replace the screen

Replacing the LCD screen is discussed in a number of threads, including these:-
