Have not tested on 64bit versions so if you have a 64bit OS attempt at your own risk*
[/quote1263839563]
I use on my W7 64 bit computer and it’s fine π[quote1263839563=monxster]
In order to access “GOD MODE” (that is the M$ name for it) just create a folder on your Win 7 desktop and rename it EXACTLY as follows:GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
[/quote1263839563]
The part of the name after the full stop does have to be entered exactly as shown, but the name of the folder before the full stop can be any valid name, e.g. I name mine ‘Tweaks’ as shown:Tweaks.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

1. On startup, I get a choice of seemingly two XP Home editions. There doesnΓ’β¬β’t seem to be any difference which one I choose. Windows Explorer and Command Prompt show only one directory for Windows in C: Do you know what this is about?
[/quote1263836606]
Windows XP is set to show a choice of operating systems when the computer starts – this can be changed by:1. Right click on the ‘My Computer’ icon on the desktop and select ‘Properties’ from the drop down menu.
2. Select the ‘Advanced’ tab.
3. Select the third ‘Settings’ button next to ‘Startup and Recovery’
4. Untick the first option under ‘Default operating system:’ which is labelled ‘Time to display list of operating systems:’.
5. Click on the ‘OK’ button on two screens to close the ‘Properties’ window:[quote1263836606=jsam]
2. My C: also shows a directory labeled: 4ae38a0844b91f6e24d346
IΓ’β¬β’m afraid to open it. Maybe this is beyond the scope of this forum. If so, can you direct me?
[/quote1263836606]
Just delete it – it’s left over from the installation process.TCMuffin

Does anyone know how to post a thumbnail?)
[/quote1263830184]
To hyperlink an image, e.g. the URL of a thumbnail (i.e. create a clickable thumbnail) you need to combine an image with a link to make the image clickable to that link, e.g. the URL of the full sized image. For example:/b]link=URL of large image[b/b]img[bURL of thumbnail[/img][/link]
So for your image….
….the code looks like this:/b]link=http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr335/ncarvajal/GODMODE.png[b/b]img[bhttp://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr335/ncarvajal/th_GODMODE.png/b]/img[b/b]/link[b
Hope that helps π

i am having issues with this way of installing XP ultimate
[/quote1263767777]
Sorry danielmeier, but Jez (the forum owner) has asked the moderators to monitor the forum for posts which contravene the forum rules.Unfortunately, Windows XP Ultimate Edition is not a legal version of XP so it falls foul of the rule “Discussion about the usage or how to obtain pirated software will not be tolerated.”.
For the above reason, I’m going to lock this thread.
The forum rules may viewed in the thread Forum Rules and Searches.

Apparently the n210 isn’t in their database yet.

If I remember correctly, my NC10 had to be plugged into the mains to flash the BIOS π

MemberHi david419 π
I use Firefox because I can customise it:
To minimise the size of the toolbars
To stop adverts from loading
To control which sites may run JavaScripts on my NC10Hope that helps.

To check memory compatibility for your N210, try Crucial Memory’s scanning tool.

How many passwords (and in what order) do you have to enter them all?
[/quote1263688939]I have disabled my Windows password – Start > Run > control userpasswords2 > Select the username you want to automatically log into > Untick the little white box next to ‘Users must enter a username and password to use this computer. If the computer is starting from a cold boot I have to enter the TrueCrypt password, the User password, and then the HDD password. From a warm boot, I have only to enter the TrueCrypt password and the HDD password.
[quote1263688939=Elephant]
is having the “Fixed disk boot sector” set to “Write Protect” in the BIOS a recommended step, beyond full disk encryption with TrueCrypt?[/quote1263688939]TrueCrypt encrypts your system so that it cannot be accessed by someone who does not know the key. Write protecting the boot sector stops someone overwriting the boot sector of a HDD.To summarise – TrueCrypt is keeps my information secure and private whereas write protecting the boot sector is part of my defence against viruses.

Have you noticed the impact on the overall battery life?
[/quote1263688939]No….not really….as I said, if anything, the bigger and faster disk draws less power….perhaps because it has double the cache of the original disk? However, I can’t say I’m experiencing twice the battery life!Hope that helps π

MemberDepending on how many folders and files you have on your HDD it can take a little while, but it stops one more background service over which you have no control sucking a bit of performance from your Sammy.

Based on my 5.5 result I feel a ‘momentus drive’ to buy something that spins at 7200 rpm π
[/quote1263687489]
Actually, I’ve was surprised that my battery life hasn’t suffered from upgrading my disk. Then I checked the figures and the Seagate has lower power consumption than the original WDC! The original WDC Scorpio Blue 5,400 rpm HDD uses ~2.5 W on seek and ~0.85 W on idle, whereas the Seagate 7,200 rpm HDD uses ~1.55 W on seek and ~0.67 W on idle. I don’t know – but is it possible that this is because the Seagate has a 16 Mb cache cf. the 8 Mb cache of the WDC?

Do you have to “turn off” indexing in XP (on my NC10)? Or is it OFF by default?
[/quote1263686657]
Hi ElephantIndexing is turned on by default. To turn it off, click on the ‘My Computer’ icon on the desktop and in the window which opens, right click on the HHD and select ‘Properties’. Ensure that the little white box next to ‘Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching’ is not ticked:

MemberHi Colin
Back in June last year, when Phaze first appeared on the forum, Steve (s162000) started a new thread about Phaze using the community to promote NC10 tips blog.
I’d already been ticked off by his postings in the ‘NC10’ area of the forum, but at that time, Jez had seemed quite supportive. After Steve raised the issue, Jez decided to move Phaze’s thread to the ‘Contributing to the Netbook Community’ area of the forum and Phaze disappeared for a while.
When I saw him posting again, I thought ‘Oh – here we go again’, and I’m really pleased you’ve raised the issue. IMO we have now reached the stage where firmer action is necessary. I agree that, if it’s possible, one solution may be to disable the links in his signature/posts. However, I suspect this is beyond the capability of the forum software.
I agree that he has gone too far and that the only reason he has returned to the forum is to promote his own site and that it is now time to take firmer action.

2.4 – processor
4.6 – memory (I upgraded to 2gb of Corsair pc6400)
3.1 – graphics
3.0 – gaming graphics
5.9 – hard disk
[/quote1263666147]
Out of interest and for comparison – the W7 WEI for my NC10 (with 2GB 200PIN DDR2 SODIMM PC2-6400 CL6 RAM chip and the Seagate Momentus HDD) breaks down as follows:2.2 – processor
4.5 – RAM
2.2 – graphics
3.0 – gaming graphics
5.9 – hard diskSo, the overall WEI for the NC10 is 2.2 and that for the N210 is 2.4 – very interesting
