MemberHi, I received my MS BT 5000 back in January about a week after my NC10 came and I did the installation as soon as I had the time. It went as well as can be. I’ve been watching this thread and I thought it’s about time I got my feet wet. I actually did find the installation pretty straightforward. First off, however, I suggest you google “Microsoft Laser Bluetooth Mouse 5000”. Select the Miscrosof web site from the list. This site will give you a detailed description of the device so you will have a better understanding of the mouse. There will also be a reference for a software download and when you click on it, will take you to the driver download site – just fill in the information about your mouse.
The download site will list all drivers for current Microsoft mice. Suggest you pick the driver that has “bluetooth” in its name. I believe there are only two, and they are the same software for different mice (one has the words “intellipoint explorer” in its name. I don’t remember the other one. Trust me, they’re the same driver. BTW, you do not have to install a driver. The mouse will work with or without the download – XP will provide the correct driver. I just don’t know if it provides the same functionality as the manufacturer’s driver.Now let’s go to the installation procedure:
1) Install the batteries – ensure you have the correct polarity;
2) Turn the switch on (toggle switch at the bottom of the device to the left). The green light on top of the mouse should flash for about 30 secs.;
3) Press and hold the right button (bottom of the device) until it flashes red and green -this means the mouse is now discoverable;
4) Check the bluetooth icon on the sytem tray and make sure it is on and adjust the settings if necessary to ensure that it is connectable;
5) Right click the bluetooth icon and select “add a bluetooth device” from the list;
6) Should be a simple process from here on in – just follow the directions. One important note however – make sure that the blinking red and green light is on during the discovery process. Otherwise you have to repeat until the NC10 tells you that it has detected the mouse. Use “0000” as the passkey.
7) You’re done!Note; I never turn my mouse off, btw. It goes to sleep when the computer does. So its very convenient. Have’nt changed my batteries either so I know it works. Then again, YMMV.
Let us know how it worked out. I may have some answers to questions you may have – I went through the process after all. Good luck!gold-dot; NC10 black; 2GB; Win XP Pro
