I removed the McAfee just to install McAfee enterprise 🙂
much better imo
My cable company offers free subscriptions to McAfee – I’ve never been interested. And I removed it from the NC10. Same reason as the others… those I know who used it, had problems.

So Jez you’re still using the bundled McAfee AV are you?

At the moment yep – I have no complaints with it actually. My NC10 seems pretty nippy. If I change it will be because I am usually happy with free AV software given that I stay clear of “dodgy” sites and downloads.
Not quite sure yet though, I might consider a paid for solution in which case I’ll check out some professional reviews and weigh up protection versus performance. Sadly AV software is a necessity in this day and age 🙁
I removed it straight aways as well. Much prefer free AVG.

As a belt-and-braces job, I’d recommend downloading and running the official uninstaller for McAfee, even after uninstalling it the usual way through Add/Remove Programs:

Likewise Norton:

Oh, and similar utilities are available for most well-know anti-nasties apps, including AVG, Avast! and Kaspersky.
However, I have to say that I’ve reluctantly come to the conclusion that it is NOT possible to keep safe any Windows PC that accesses the net without installing a VERY good – and sadly, that means paid for – application, and the one that fits the bill better than any other (in my view) is Kaspersky Internet Security Suite.
