Hi, just took delivery of my new NC20, it was bought from Amazon Marketplace for £260. I believe it was originally sold by Amazon and then returned as it has a “cosmetic blemish” though I can’t find it, the seller is the returns arm of Amazon.
Anyway been reading up and the first thing to do seems to be the partitioning of the HD. I’ve bought this as I intend on a spot of travelling and I want to take all my media with me so I’ve also bought a Hitachi Neso 500G portable HD which will have it all on then just move stuff over as and when required. As I’ll be using it in this way is it worth partitioning at all, or just partition 25G for OS etc? any advise welcome.
After this it will be removing Mcaffee (have the tool downloaded) and install some of the stuff in the sticky threads, CCleaner, Firefox , KM Player etc. Then the 2 GIg upgrade goes in, again this is already bought and waiting to go in.So she’s on charge and I’ll be off to work shortly so when I’m back it’ll be playtime.

April 3, 2009 at 4:08 pm #188352jezMemberHi Andy, welcome to the site. That sounds like a good price for the 20 – well done on getting that deal!
Partitioning – I think people will have different opinions, personally I find it handy to have the OS on a separate area just for ease of backups. I guess it is also required if dual booting is something you might want to have a go with down the line.
Other people might also suggest it can help things like fragmentation etc but I don’t think it will make a big day to day difference.

Yeah got a real good deal, it was a case of being patient as i knew sooner or later 1 would appear, just had to make sure I was ready with the buy it button.
I think I agree with keeping the OS seperate, as I won’t be using it for video editing, games or any office apps would 25Gig be about right? or is that too much. I guess its better to have some spare space on C drive than to have to start using space on the D drive. Kinda better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it, if you know what I mean.Andy

Gives me something to do over the weekend.Andy
April 4, 2009 at 5:49 pm #188359GrrrMemberWell I’ve just spent an hour removing Mcafee, installing a few of the recomended Apps, changing the RAM and re-partitioning the HD (25C & 118D) as it had been set at 50/50 by whomever returned it to Amazon. A few more tweaks and messing about with it and she’ll be fine.
All in all, a rather happy bunny.

April 5, 2009 at 8:44 pm #188360GrrrMemberThanks, although it an NC20 I got super cheap. I have a lot of reading to do. Unfortunatly the previous owner registered it before sending it back to Amazon so I’m trying to remove all trace of him, proving to be a bit harder than I thought.
