MemberHi folks
I’ve got my N150 2 days ago. Before I have started the Netbook, I have upgraded the N150 to 2 GB RAM, deleted all partitions during setup and installed Windows 7 Starter from scratch (reason: I really hate bloatware and no need for recovery feature).
Then I have upgraded the BIOS to 08JI, installed the Intel chipset and storage drivers, as well as the missing drivers for WLAN and Intel GMA 3150 (the latest from Intel NOT from Samsung download center). The first problem after installation was that I was not able to activate W7S online. So I have used the telephone activation feature which is a real pain, but it finally worked well.
Second problem: There were a couple of FN keys without function (WLAN on / off, Brigthness, CPU speed). So I have installed the easy display and speedup manager –> solved. Exept that I’m unable to adjust the brigthness. No matter if I try to adjust the brigthness with FN keys or directly in Windows –> no chance at all, full brigthness all the time.
I have googled like hell, but it seems that I’m the only one with this problem and I have no idea how to fix that.
Maybe there is someone here who has the answer for this annoying bug.
BTW: Apart from this issue, I’m really impressed about my new toy 😉
Best regards,
Anira

MemberUPDATE: problem SOLVED !!!
I’ve installed the graphic card driver from Samsung download center instead of the latest version from Intel. Now I’m able to change the brigthness.
Kind regards,
Anira

MemberHi, same problem here.
So the only version available from the Samsung DL Center is “VGA(Graphics),INTEL (Driver) (ver.8.14.10.2108) “
That’s what I downloaded, and obviously it’s not the best choice as I’m having the exact same problem – like zamansimba above , “whatever i do, it would only cycle between 7 and full brightness”.
But no other driver is available from the center, so what’s next? Hunt for a previous version of the Intel driver? And which version?
Thanks!

MemberSame problem for me just the full brightness and only one bar below Internal_VGA_Intel_8.14.10.1972 for me 🙁
Quick update: downloaded and downgraded drivers with WLAN_Atheros_Win7_8.0.0.279.zip works fine now 😀

MemberArdeX and rendler, welcome to the forum.
Have a look around the forum this has come up a few times I seem to recall. On my N220 the drivers 8.14.10.2108 work brightness wise. (I know ArdeX apparently not in your case – have you tried a backup (just in case) and then removal of them, then reinstall them?). Have you got an option in Device Manager to ‘roll the display drivers back’? (This assumes you have installed a non-working set over a working set).
But I seem to recall you need something else (not 100% sure though) like Easy Display Manager (I think). Do a forum search to double check.
All I can say on my netbook, the ‘2108’ drivers work with brightness control.

MemberThanks Fred232!
rendler: are you really saying that installing those WLAN drivers fixed the display (brightness adjustment) problem somehow? Wonders never cease if that’s the case 🙂
I failed to mention some additional (and possibly relevant) background info: I did a clean install of Win7 Ultimate, erasing the original Starter. Thus, I obviously had to download & install all sorts of stuff (VGA & WLAN drivers, all the Samsung Easy software I felt I needed, etc.) as there was no CD in the retail package. So I had to install the Intel VGA drivers as one of the first things to get my Sammy to display properly – so I have nothing to roll back to (except the native, bad-looking Windows basic driver)).
It could be that the Easy Display Manager works A-OK with Win7 Starter, but not with Ultimate? Anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks guys, and greetings from Finland…

Sorry copied the wrong filename: Internal_VGA_Intel_32bit_Win7_8.14.10.2108.zip oops 😛

OK, thanks 😎 I suspected that, but you never know – sometimes technology moves in mysterious ways :p
Have a nice weekend y’all.

MemberHi i registered just to reply to this topic. I had the same problem on my N210 plus. But it worked when i got it (few weeks ago). It stopped working right after I did the Intel Graphicscard update through samsung updater. So it was easy to find the culprit for me, I did a google to make sure and this topic just confirmed it. I reinstalled and BOOM instantly went back to low brightness. So just have to wait on the next driver that hopefully fixes the issue the new driver has, until then this driver will do 😉

MemberHi there RaulS1987,
you’re talking about *low* brightness? Usually (for me and many others), the issue has been *full* brightness with no way to drop it.
I actually recently had to re-install Windows completely (I know, fooling around with disk partitions can result in all sorts of funny stuff 😉 …and after that, the video driver installed automatically via Windows Update. I noticed that as I started installing the Internal_VGA_Intel_32bit_Win7_8.14.10.2108 package from Samsung support, and Windows said that my installed driver version was higher/newer than 8.14.10.2108 (sorry, don’t remember the exact version, and I’m at work now so can’t check it).
But no difference: the brightness is at its fullest, and I can only drop it by one notch (and even that doesn’t seem to have any visible effect). Adjusting the brightness in Power Options > Power Plans or in Win Mobility Center has absolutely no effect whatsoever. I can move the sliders all I want but nothing happens. It’s annoying as I’d very much like to extend battery life by reducing the brightness, and have no means to do that. 🙁
Related to this, I also haven’t figured a way to disable Bluetooth in a handy way. The hotkey Fn+(one of the number keys, maybe 8?) displays a popup where you can turn wireless and/or Bluetooth of or off – but if I disable BT, it’s enabled again by default the next time I boot the machine. Any way to make it stay disabled until I need it (rarely)? I guess I could do it in Network Connections, let’s see (I’m still relatively new to Win7)…

Hi when I sent it went back to low brightness that was as soon as I installed the older samsung drivers. The problem occurred the moment I used either windows update or samsung updater to install the latest intel graphics drivers (exactly the same as you, i could turn it down 1 bar but no further). Then when I reinstalled the older ones from the samsung site it fixed it instantly.
