I had the same problem on my Samsung N150. On the advice obtained from this site I visited Samsung.com and looked for software support to download the correct grahics card driver. The driver listed was an Intel driver not a Samsung. I downloaded it anyway. When I installed it, it said there was a more recent driver already installed. I installed the one I downloaded from the Samsung site anyway. After that, the brightness adjuster worked perfectly. That was a few days ago and it’s still working fine!
October 28, 2010 at 2:48 am #213290kflyerMemberHi, I too have the same problem since updating GMA3150 driver on a N150 yesterday. Just posted a new thread without seeing this. How to download the Samsung version ? It doesn’t seem to be available on my netbook. Rollback to previous version is not available either.
Can someone please guide ? And let me suggest, this thread is worth to be sticky.November 6, 2010 at 8:10 pm #213280ArdeXMemberHallelujah! I got it working too 🙂
After (finally) giving it some thought, I tried different graphics drivers too. Before that, i installed/uninstalled/reinstalled Easy Display Manager about a dozen times, all every option possible (as admin, in different compatibility modes, changing the BIOS setting etc.) – I even tried the XP version of EDM. It should have been more obvious that EDM was not the problem, as I couldn’t adjust the brightness at all.
Anyhow, I finally found the correct Intel drivers: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18478&keyword=%228.14.10%22&lang=eng so version 8.14.10.1972 finally worked. After that I could adjust the brightness via Windows Mobility Center, and after that I installed EDM (version 3.1.5.0 for Win7), and – of course – that works now too.
So in all simplicity, the trick is to install those older Intel drivers and of course NOT update them later. Simple as that.
November 12, 2010 at 12:42 am #213291overacidMemberHi guys, long time lurker, first time poster…
I’m having exactly the same issue. Chose to update the intel drivers (it was listed as an optional update, but i thought hey it can’t hurt) and since then have been getting headaches from the super brightness of my screen (ahh!) and can’t seem to change it using the function keys or whenever i try using control panel. Really wish i never updated now!
Can the guys who managed to fix this elaborate a little more? I tried the older wlan drivers but that didn’t help.
Does anyone have a link to the older intel graphics drivers?
Cheers all,
MattSammy N150, Windows 7 starter.

Looks like we have a solution. you may ignore my previous post.
November 12, 2010 at 7:16 am #213281ArdeXMemberHi Matt,
see my previous post (#19), there’s a link to the old graphics driver that solved the issue for me! Version 8.14.10.1972 – anything released after that one repeated the problem. And this issue has nothing to do with WLAN drivers, not with Samsung Easy Display Manager 😉
Cheers!
EDIT: Matt, you seemed to notice my post while I was replying 🙂

Thanks man! You made my day!
I just setuped my dad’s N210 and installed over 50 Windows updates, unfortunately the Intel driver was also selected and had the same issues. With the posted driver the brightness is working again, I just had to confirm the “downgrade” dialogue, no reinstalling of EDM or something else and no system rollback. 🙂January 24, 2011 at 4:25 pm #213293VesaVMemberThis solution from ArdeX is perfect for my Samsung N210 brightness being stuck problem. Thank you!

I had the problem of the brightness adjustment being stuck on my N210. Inspite of many calls to Samsung customer support the only solutions they came up were:
1) Reinstall everything with Samsung Recovery
2) Send to laptop to repair shop
Both were next to unacceptable to me and so I’m really grateful for the above solution from ArdeX that works perfectly!January 25, 2011 at 8:02 pm #213282ArdeXMemberNo problem VesaV, glad I could help 🙂
Judging by your name, you might be a fellow Finn – so hello from the Tampere region! -Arttu
February 16, 2011 at 7:40 am #213294gaderMemberFor those who wanna have 8.14.10.2230 driver from intel site and be able to change brightness level.
1 Install the driver from intel site http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19494&lang=eng
2 Use regedit and navigate to hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolset
3 Use ctrl+f to find: FeatureTestControl and replace values 184 with 84
4 Reboot system.
It was tested on 2230 and 2117 builds.Edit: mod is working with 2364 build also
February 23, 2011 at 3:15 pm #213300April 15, 2011 at 12:15 pm #213301LeoniusMemberGracias, gader! Works on Samsung NB30 with 2230 build of Intel Graphics driver (latest).
In addition to your post:
the only “FeatureTestControl” key i’ve changed was in:Code:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlVideo{EEF5A288-ADF8-488E-9EB7-6EDBEDE418F0}000Now display backlight (brightness) on my Samsung NB30 is again under control by Windows 7 and Samsung Easy Display Manager.
