May 22, 2009 at 2:39 pm #175279TCMuffin MemberD’oh – thank you Alfihar 🙂 May 24, 2009 at 1:28 pm #175382bleron MemberThanks Freddy tips made a massive difference May 27, 2009 at 7:29 pm #175375Bertolt MemberHi, I’ve read much of this thread with interest, there’s lots of useful info here thank you (and some not so useful, but that’s democracy for you!). I have a problem with Firefox and the the two add ons “compact menu” and “hide caption”. They’re brilliant for saving space! However, have you tried running these with the Tab Mix Plus add on? When you do, there are two problems:
 1. The x to close Firefox in the top right of its Window doesn’t work. I can only close Firefox by right clicking its entry on the taskbar, which takes longer; and
 2. This combo stops Firefox auto-restoring your previous tabs.I’ve played with a few settings to no avail yet. It’s quite annoying, because I really want to save that vital vertical space; but I also want some of TMP’s options 🙁 If anyone is running TMP with these two add ons without the problems described, please say yo! May 27, 2009 at 9:47 pm #175336jeepers01 ParticipantI use Tiny Menu 1.4.10 and find it really good and stable in Firefox 3.0.10. You could try it with TMP and see if it fixes your problems May 29, 2009 at 2:22 am #175376Bertolt MemberThanks, I’ve found that ‘hide caption’ is the incompatible bugger. Lots of reviews on its Mozilla page confirming this, so I’ve had to uninstall it. June 5, 2009 at 11:49 pm #175320wyckd Membermaybe we can have one for Vista on NC10 June 6, 2009 at 12:35 pm #175387tocnai Member[quote1244291659=gasman]
Thanks to TCMuffin and Alfihar.I have another issue: I made the changes to the “services” options in msconfig (verbatim to the ones suggested by Freddy) and kept the workstation and server option checked. I have just tried my 3 USB dongle (after powering down the wireless router)….I couldn’t connect. Not sure what service I unchecked, but after enabling all services, success in connection. Question is: what happened, and what service do I need to keep checked? Thanks in advance to anyone who knows! Nafees
[/quote1244291659]im having the same problems did you find out which service it is so i can uncheck the ones not needed

[/quote1244298019]I would suggest working through the list sequentially until it stops working
 Trial and error process really
Avoid disabling the obvious ones such as
 DHCP Client
 DNS Client
 Network Connections
Network Location Awareness (NLA)Hope this helps June 9, 2009 at 2:40 am #175377Bertolt MemberHi Freddy, please can you tell me what software you’ve used so your XP theme looks so cool in your first post in this thread. Is it WindowsBlinds with a particular skin? Sorry if you’ve said so in another post, I haven’t managed to read all 19 pages 🙂 June 9, 2009 at 6:12 pm #175280TCMuffin MemberFreddy hasn’t been around much recently, so I’ll try and answer on his behalf: I think the images show the Crystal Clear theme from CrystalXP.net and the wallpaper in the second image may be found at Shifted Reality (with thanks to Alfihar for tracking down these links). June 9, 2009 at 10:49 pm #175378Bertolt MemberGreat thanks, that’s it! I try and avoid such aesthetic tweaks normally, but when you’ve been staring at XP’s skin for like eight years you need some refreshments! Thanks Freddy.I have to say I am not a huge fan of the “broadband” dongle….I’m sure I had one element of Plug & Play enabled. I have to admit I get a wee bitty crosseyed looking at the lists, I’m sure it’s easy to miss something out… I am an anaesthetist who foolishly lives 70 miles from my place of work, so when I am at home, the WiFi rules, but when I’m on site, I have to succumb to the likes of either hospital networks or the USB dongle. I’ll try those changes and see if I can make it work with minimal services enabled. Thanks again Nafees

Hi did you manage to work out which services wanted enabling,I’ve just got a dongle and have the same problem would like to turn on the one’s required without going through all the list if some one has already done it.Thanks in advance .Regards malcolmJuly 6, 2009 at 11:59 pm #175379Bertolt MemberTwo requests with a spurious link between them! 1.
Firefox 3.5 isn’t compatible with ‘Hide Chrome’ or ‘Compact Menu 2″, so Firefox is gobbling up more of my screen estate again!I’ve replaced Compact Menu with Tiny Menu, which does the same thing (although you have to put up with the icon/Menu being on the left instead of being able to move it between the address bar and search engine bar). But since Hide Caption isn’t compatible with Tab Mix Plus, which is essential, anyone got any ideas? Besides reverting back to Firefox < 3..5... 2.
Anyone know of an addon so Firefox displays your battery life? Sometimes I’m browsing and it shuts down! Why? Because I auto-hide the taskbar, but I think my Firefox window prevents the taskbar message warning about battery life from showing. Let me know if you don’t have this problem, maybe it’s been due to Hide Chrome hiding things. I’ve searched Mozilla add ons with the word “batttery” but no joy, maybe my idea has a funkier name.July 8, 2009 at 8:30 pm #175370tonytb Member1. True, you cannot move the Tiny Menu icon, but you can move other things to the left of it. I know it’s weird but I just tried it. July 9, 2009 at 9:20 pm #175380Bertolt MemberThanks I know what you mean, god idea. Anyone able to assist with my queries much love from me!
