Memberfor those of us old farts with a hankering for some old time retro gaming, you could do a lot worse than give OOLITE a go, it’s a freeware Elite clone, runs a treat in a window so you can get on with other stuff during the slow bits untiil you;ve got enough weapons to make a fight of it 😉 and remember, don’t fly strght at the planet after you jump in to a system, unles you are cruising for a bruising.

MemberFor its price (free) its really fun, even if it has bugs because of the developers stopped working on the game. The game was developed back when computer desktops where not that good, and should run on the netbooks really well. I am expecting to get my netbook (Samsung n120) for Christmas and will get a chance to check if it works then… but because I can’t see if it works right now I posted the system requirements quoted from there website.
Shattered Galaxy – “Shattered Galaxy, the world’s first published massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game, combines the excitement of real-time strategy with the character development of role-playing in a persistent online world.”
Here is the system requirements from there website:

MemberI’ve recently got an N150plus and was considering a bit of retro gaming with Doom and Quake which I both believe are now free, will they run okay on it? I’ve had a quick look and I suspect the main stumbling block would be windows 7? Also, I saw Doom 3 on Steam for a fiver, but again it says it won’t work on Windows 7, is there a way round this?
New to the forum, sorry for all the questions!

Membersterushton,
I haven’t tried them, but this list reports that Quake, Quake2 and Quake3 Arena run on an NC10 and an N110, so (best guessing) I think the H/W should be OK, but as you say the OS may not be. There is always good old Compatibility mode !?!
Also for older games like quake and doom, if they wont run natively, DOSBOX may get them going. Long time since I played either, but were they DOS games?
Microsoft claim that Doom3 is compatible with W7 32bit and 64bit.
MS also claim Quake4 can run on W7 32bit as well, but no info re quake or quake2/3However, I think the netbooks GPU will limit what Doom3 and Quake4 can do, if they run at all. Are the demos of these games still available to try before purchasing?
