I have the latest bios that was on the auto update manager and i can still access the intel tab.Is there an update that was not put on the manager???
[/quote1282162290]can you boot in to your BIOS and tell me what version it says you are running? I am running 11CA which is the latest and I want to enable AHCI, but I can’t get in to the hidden settings to enable it. For the life of me I cannot figure out why they would remove that “feature.” I can understand removing the ability to reallocate video memory, but to take away AHCI mode is pretty dumb.

MemberSo no one has any input? I would really like to swap hard drives. I also just found out that I can’t update the firmware of the SSD unless it is in AHCI mode so I would really like to get it in AHCI mode initially.

MemberI am reading more and more that it looks like AHCI can only be enabled in the BIOS versions that had the “hidden” settings. This can’t be 100% true. Obviously if it could be enabled in the BIOS in one of the firmware releases it is supported.
Is there any way to enable it without me downgrading firmware? Also, does anyone have confirmation that enabling it actually worked?

MemberWell one thing that I do know is that you can do a clean install with the Upgrade disk as long as you legally own a previous version of Windows. They did that in case you ever had to format your drive after upgrading that way you didn’t have to install the old OS and then the new OS on top of it.
All you have to do is install the Upgrade disk without activating it and then install it again as an upgrade.
Anyway, I guess it seems like I should clear some room on my external hard drive for some backup images. Will the image copy the recovery partition as well? Also, since I am upgrading from XP, I actually think I have to do a clean install anyway so are all of the drivers/samsung programs available for download and compatible with Windows 7?

MemberWould there be any reason that I would need an image of Win 7? If I have the Windows Pro disk and the Recovery partion with XP on would still work on a machine running Win 7, can’t I just recover to Win XP and then reinstall Win 7 with the disk?
Also, could I get away with the Free Trial version of Acronis True Image for this one time? I am also assuming that if I install Win 7 from scratch without doing an image to the new hard drive and then upgrading, I could just get all of the drivers from the Samsung website correct? Are there any other downsides to just loading Win 7 directly to the drive (I have all of my data backed up).

MemberThanks for the response. I misspoke earlier, I did have Partition Master. I found that my mistake was to not shutdown/log off then back on so I got it all set now, thanks!
So if I were to start from scratch, does it matter if the recovery partition is at the first part of the drive or the last? What else do I have to do in order to reload the partition? Also, if I upgrade to Windows 7 can I still use this recovery partition or is it not compatible?
Thanks!

MemberAnyone? I want to try and backup the recovery partition but I can’t figure out how to unhide it in EASEUS Partition Manager.

MemberHmmm, not sure if I want to go that route. If I have the backup XP CD (I have to check my original box to see if it was included originally) can I just back up the recovery partition on to something and then use the restore CD to load XP on to the new hard drive. Once it is loaded then just load the restore partition and restore from there?
I installed EASEUS Partition Manager and I can see the hidden partition, but I don’t see how to unhide it so I can back it up. When I right click on the partition the option listed is to hide it, not unhide it. Am I doing something wrong?

MemberWell I was able to restore fine. What I don’t like though is it is not truly a restore to factory conditions because I did not have to set up Windows again and it still had my computer name saved.
Now I just need to figure out an easy way to swap out hard drives.

MemberAlso, as an extension to this question, if I chose to upgrade my hard drive to a SSD, am I able to recover at to factory settings at all or is it somehow tied to the original hardware configuration?
(I obviously can’t use the F4 option at all considering it would be a new hard drive, so what are my other options, if any?)
