MemberThanks. I saw this link too after doing a Google search but my spool folder was already empty. I did a system restore to a couple of days ago where I knew the error did not occur. That fixed the “memory write error”. Next I deleted the spoolsv.exe as there was a newer version and an older version (I am using the old version now). Windows did some further automatic updates and, somehow and magically, spoolsv.exe seems to run fine again. I shall not complain.

MemberThanks for the reply and welcome! I also tried the 2GB RAM again, which works now too. May have been a contact problem. What irritates me a bit is that I am getting (also this morning) an application error for spoolsv.exe “memory could not be written” at the XP login screen, even though I have no printer installed; but I use PrimoPDF for printing. As this happens for both RAMs, I hope its not a deeper rooted hardware problem because it also coincides with the problem of starting the Netbook in general.

MemberSorry for keeping talking to myself 🙂
I found the problem (and thought others may be interested). It’s the RAM. I replaced the 2GB RAM with the original 1GB RAM and it works again. Simpler to return RAM than the netbook…

MemberJust a quick update. I tried booting from a Linux-USB Stick (Damn Small Linux) but nothing happens either. Here is what happens, with native Windows XP or USB Linxu
1. Switch on
2. Light for “Power on” gets on
3. Light for “Wireless” gets on
4. Light for “Hard disc” gets on (typical read/write noise can be heard veyr briefly)
5. Light for “Hard disc” turns off (after less than 1 sec)
6. Screen stays blank (I can hear the light humming of the hard disc)
7. Nothing happens anymore
8. I can switch off (and hear how the hard disk stops)Seems like a call to the support centre…? Any bets as to what is faulty?
