I guess if it is a little cheaper then it becomes a buying choice – but they need to make it clear. I will update the relevant places on this site to raise awareness on this one.
[/quote1249759427]I’ve just thought, do you think Samsung is now pushing the N110/special edition as the ‘new’ NC10 and the NC10 as a sort of ‘budget’ version? Perhaps they will cease making 6 cell NC10’s alltogether? Makes sense I guess, but not at the prices Argos and Comet are charging. Maybe i’ll drop Samsung a line to find out for definate….. s162000 MemberWould you be a fan of The Beatles Mikeymoo? s162000 MemberHmm, I would definately make a backup of anything important incase it’s a warning sign of imminent HDD failure. Does the sound happen when the disk is being accessed or idle or both? What OS are you on? Hi stub101The DealExtreme website quotes the weight of the 9-cell battery as 20.88 lb, i.e. 582g. I couldn’t find a source for the weight of the standard 6-cell battery on the web, so I weighed my NC10’s battery and it’s 320g. For calibration, I’ve also weighed the netbook with its battery and that weighs 1.328 kg compared with Samsung’s quoted weight of 1.33 kg – so my scales seem pretty accurate 😕 Hope that helps.
 [/quote1249674415]Good bit of research Jayne, thanks 🙂 s162000 Member[quote1249673497=mjpileggi]
Hi!It’s been a while since I’ve posted here. My husband may want to buy a netbook and even offered to take mine and let me get a new one. I love my NC10. Haven’t looked to see what’s out there since I bought mine in February. Is there a better ‘version’ of the NC10? I like the size and weight of the NC10. I use mine for checking/writing emails, storing photos, using picasa to edit my photos, journal while on my trips. Thanks! Monica
[/quote1249673497]Well, if you are happy with the NC10 why not just get another one? The price should come down after the N510 is released 😉 s162000 Member[quote1249673061=bramsel]
Hi, I’m new. Hope I put this question in the right place.I have a Samsung NC10 laptop with a 1.6GHz processor and 1 GB RAM. I am interested in buying a DVB-T usb stick to be able to watch digital tv here in Paris, France where I live. I read a lot about many different sticks and most have as minimal requirements a 2 GHz cpu. Will my laptop be able to play tv? I was interested in the following stick:Msi Digi Vox micro HD DVB-T stick. I just want to be able to watch 1 tv channel at a time and be able to turn on subtitles via teletext (so I can follow the french dubbed movies better..). Can anyone give le advice on which DVB-T stick will work on my laptop and what I should look for? It’s a pity that I can’t see any of these sticks working in a shop. Thanks.
[/quote1249673061]Hey Bramsel, I have a Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T, bought from here. It works perfectly connected to my main ariel in the house. The supplied portable ariel is not strong enough on it’s own and suspect it won’t be in France either. The software is excellent and is not too taxing on the CPU. It can also record in the background. The NC10 makes an excellent little TV recorder in my opinion! Good luck. s162000 Member[quote1249671928=mblake01]
I too had no joy with Samsumg or Comet, so buyers beware !!!! Comet and Argos only stock the NC10 with the 3 cell battery and still charge the same amount as you can get the NC10 with a 6 cell battery. Samsung tried to tell me that people would rather have the notebook 100 grams lighter than have the extra operating time. Well I’m not one of them for sure and think its just another way of cutting costs and making the same kind of money.Mike.
[/quote1249671928]Ah man, that isn’t good. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Unfortunately new NC10 owners tend to find Sammynetbook after their purchase, only to find that they’ve been ‘duped’. This is surely going to damage the reputation of the NC10 and Samsung netbooks in general. s162000 Member[quote1249671536=Razorback]
Will I see a noticeable difference compared with the 1GB RAM I have now?
[/quote1249671536]Hi, you could have a look at the Upgrade the RAM on an NC10 page in our Sammywiki for more info 🙂 s162000 Member[quote1249415666=jeepers01]
A point to bear in mind is the quiescent power will be low in most conditions when the device is effectively on standby, in between working cycles, unless it is constantly streaming videos for example. So the average consumption will be perhaps less than expected over the battery operating period.
[/quote1249415666]Yes, exactly. Just having a USB drive plugged in will not drain power (no drive to spin up). If I was constantly streaming I would probably copy over to the HDD as well.
Of course 2.5″ drives will behave differently, they will consume power until the enclosure decides to spin the drive down. And wireless mice will drain power, but not a lot.USB modem dongles however, they get through battery power like there’s no tomorrow! s162000 Member[quote1249398307=Bra1nSOFT]
So it seems that N510 is coming pretty soon and even this month 🙂Samsung N510 NVIDIA Ion netbook up for pre-order
[/quote1249398307]Good find, thanks. So 499 Euros is £425 in Sterling. Who’s interested at that price? Personally £380 is the most I will be willing to pay. s162000 MemberWow, it’s the tenth time Samsung have released a bios update with no release notes! s162000 Member[quote1249304446=Tagefo]
 4) Any other pro/cons?
[/quote1249304446]There are now two battery capacity variants of the NC10, a six cell and a three cell. Some retailers are charging as much for the 3 cell as the 6 so be careful! 🙂 s162000 MemberHaha good find, very funny! 😀 😀 😀 August 1, 2009 at 5:08 pm in reply to: Battery Status Monitor showing wear at 5% after only a few days use #197269s162000 Member[quote1249146355=Eddie_951]
Getting a little more worried now as the battery wear is indicated at 11% 🙁There is mention above of better battery wear indicators… Anyone link me to one?
[/quote1249146355]Don’t worry, my battery has had ‘11% wear’ since the week I got it (November last year) and hasn’t changed since. If you had a duff battery, you’d know about it i.e. not holding a charge properly.
