Member[quote1252506929=jez]lol, so remind me, was there a netbook angle somewhere here?[/quote1252506929]
Not as far as I can tell. ::shrug::Parody
Memberi FIND IT PRETTY OBVIOUS ON THE RARE OCCASION I’ve accidentally turned on Caps Lock. :)
There’s a ton of onscreen indicator programs out there. The one you’ve linked to seems popular from a quick Google search.

Windows XP reporting 1.99 GB of RAMApparently a number of early NC10 reviews stole those numbers from each other. The N120 review is missing the “shared” aspect of the video memory.

Member[quote1252419185=amida]Val, if I were you. I will pick N120. The reason is NC10 has 64MB only for video memory. N110 and N120 are 128MB. It will be a big deal if you need to play 720P video or HD video on Youtube.[/quote1252419185]
Not true; the NC10’s chipset can take 128MB if needed. (Note that none of these machines have any dedicated video memory. Intel’s graphics drivers take memory from the system as required.)Parody
MemberI knew there was a reason I pre-ordered 6 upgrade copies back when they were cheap. 🙂

MemberThe “Formac” drive should work just fine. Not only are the internals either a Pioneer or a Toshiba drive, but the Quickstart Guide on their website says “Plug it into your Mac or PC”. 🙂
I have the same model drive as Alfihar, and it’s worked just fine for me.

MemberFWIW, I set the Sleep button (Fn-Esc) to Hibernate in the Power Options in the Display Control Panel.
If you go to Start/Turn Off Computer and press Shift, the Stand By button should change to Hibernate.

MemberI wish I could give a direct comparison but I haven’t used my NC10 with 1 GB. (2 GB went in before the first boot.)
I have noticed the difference between (256 MB/512 MB/1GB) and (more/more/2 GB) on plenty of other XP machines. Before 1 GB XP is often painfully slow unless you’ve really cleaned it up, which is the opposite of most store-bought machines. 1 GB to 2 is very useful for intensive work, multi-multitasking, and graphics-intensive gaming. Those are all things I don’t do on the NC10.
I still recommend it anyway, if only because it’s so cheap, but upgrading is probably not needed in normal usage.

MemberApparently the 3G model has been available in the UK since last December.

MemberI’ve played plenty of Starcraft on my NC10. Dune II (in DOSBox) and Dune 2000 work fine as well.

MemberTwo things to remember:
Hauppauge sells these now. (If necessary, you can pick a country by scrolling to the very bottom.)
The model names are different for Europe.Hope this helps.

MemberThat setting isn’t in the Keyboard Control Panel in WinXP. Thus my very long description of how to change it above. :)
Parody
MemberAs mentioned, the keyboard setting in Windows probably doesn’t match whatever kind of keyboard you have.
Try going to the Control Panel and opening the Regional and Language Options control panel.
Switch to the Languages tab and click Details….
Here there’s a list of keyboard layouts currently installed under “Installed services”.
If the correct keyboard layout isn’t already listed then click the Add… button on the right. Here you pick the language and layout you want. From your description, I’d leave the Language alone and try the “United Kingdom” layout. Press OK to add the new layout to the box, then OK out to try it out.
There should be a keyboard icon on the Taskbar now, next to the system tray. Click on that, then pick your new layout from the list. Open up Notepad and try it out.
Once you find a layout you’re happy with, go back into the Regional and Language Options control panel and Remove all of the other ones. OK out and you should be good to go.Hope this helps.
