MemberHave you tried contacting Samsung to see what the not-covered-by-warranty repair cost would be? (I’m assuming they wouldn’t do a warranty repair based on how you’re talking about it.)
Also, FWIW, I use the “pad’ of my finger on touchpads, not the tip. Might be worth trying if your nails interfere with touch pad usage.

MemberCould be practically anything, but since the 5Cx versions made it to release I’d guess it was something not immediately obvious. Maybe along the lines of “If you’ve done X, Y, and/or Z to the machine it doesn’t go into/come out of Suspend.” Then they made a quick fix that broke something else, so they decided to pull it until they can get a more thoroughly tested version out there. (Again, just my guess.)
Unfortunately, Samsung doesn’t give us release notes so we don’t know what they changed.

MemberYes, 5CG is a newer version than 5CA.

MemberFWIW, I think Samsung targeted their platform well: a miniature laptop with an OS and software designed for simplicity, not security. Most of these machines will have one user; most of these users won’t know the difference between an Administrator and a Limited User and will just accept the default made the first time the machine is turned on.
Thankfully, none of the Samsung programs are that essential to using the laptop.

MemberYes, unless Maxis/EA released an official patch or set of instructions that removes the CD requirement, you would have to have the CD in to play.
There are ways around that requirement that may or may not be legal in the place that you live. They are mentioned in other posts on this forum.

Member[quote1237386235=Don_Audio]Question is: What is the actual difference between 05CA and 05CG??? Which one is “safe for use”?[/quote1237386235]
Since Samsung pulled them, probably neither. I’d wait for version 6 or 5CP or whatever they end up releasing. It should be soon, since they have (assumedly) broken versions out there.Parody
MemberI’m taking the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach with the NC10; I haven’t updated any of the drivers yet.
When I do update drivers, I go get them from the manufacturers of the various parts.

MemberSpybot Search & Destroy doesn’t need any registration. Unfortunately, there are ripoffs out there. Hopefully the one you have just tries to leech money and isn’t malware of some kind. :(
FWIW, I use AVG, Spybot, and the Windows Firewall.

MemberIf you’re using the battery manager, it’s probably switching the CPU and fans between “always run at full speed” (AC) and “only run fast when needed” (battery).

MemberFWIW, this weekend I played video games about 7 hours straight on the NC10 and the reported temperatures didn’t go over 50 C.
Texture sizes vary like any other graphic; detailed textures can get very large. One of the reasons you have graphic cards with as much memory as some of the XP machines I have sitting around.

MemberMine’s a SMC SMCWBR14-G, for whatever it’s worth. I’m on it as I type. :)

MemberI have a Logitech Optical Notebook Mouse Plus I’ve been using to supplement the trackpad. There’s a slot around the bottom for wrapping up the cord and a snap for attaching the USB plug to the bottom where it doubles as protection for the LED and camera. It works OK, but you have to pull it pretty tight to get it to snap in.

MemberIt’d be an easy thing to test when you’re at a point to reinstall anyway. Install, install sound drivers, check the various volume settings, play something, install EDS, make sure it’s turned off, make sure the volume settings are all the same, play the same something, wipe the machine again.
FWIW, while I haven’t tried it with EDS never installed, my NC10’s been plenty loud with EDS turned off. The two problems I had with volume were centering (my NC10 came set all the way left for some reason) and making sure the karaoke was turned off. (No X, 0. Why not just a text Karaoke Mode checkbox?)

MemberPerhaps multitouch touch pads cost more than the traditional variety? (Assuming it is a hardware thing.)

MemberHmm…thinking back to when I bought my NC10:
Budget – They’re all less than $500.
Performance – They all have the same basic parts (Processor/Video)
Usage Requirements (Basic or high end) – It’s a netbook, you can only do so much.
Operating system – It’s getting XP whether it likes it or not.
Connectivity (IR / Bluetooth / WIFI / HSPDA) – They all have WiFi.
Portability (size and weight) – I carried a desktop replacement laptop around for the last three years; it can’t be any worse.
Portability (Battery life) – I carried a desktop replacement laptop around for the last three years; it can’t be any worse.
Addons / Extras – This one comes with a decent keyboard! We have a winner!Unfortunately, you omitted one thing that, for many of the people I know, is the only important question:
Does it come in ?
