MemberI think you should follow your own suggestion: ignore what the software is telling you about battery life and use it from a full charge until it dies to see how long it lasts in typical usage.
I also recommend using hibernation, as it seems to work very well on the NC10. For example, my NC10’s cold boot time is ~90 seconds but it comes back from hibernation in ~20 seconds.
I use AVG (with scheduled scans off) and the Windows Firewall.

MemberYou may want to check into the Sammy Survey as well. (The data hasn’t been updated recently but it is interesting.)

MemberYour NC10’s power supply should be built to handle international power. (It should say something like 100-240 volts, 50-60 Hz.)
Other than that, you should back up your data before leaving in case something goes wrong.
Have fun in Miami!

MemberFWIW, it doesn’t quite work that way. IE Tab actually loads an instance of IE and embeds it in a tab. Sites viewed in that tab are being viewed with IE’s rendering engine, not just being told that the browser is IE but still using the FF engine.

MemberI usually use the manufacturer’s driver over the one provided by the computer maker unless I know the computer maker has done something to the hardware that requires their custom version of the driver.
Unfortunately, I can’t give you a good answer for the NC10 as I haven’t bothered to update any of the drivers. If it ain’t broke….

MemberI wouldn’t say usually, especially for this particular list, but it doesn’t hurt to do a search.

MemberI generally only clean up the insides of a computer when I’m putting in new parts, which isn’t that often. (Maybe once every couple of years.)

MemberI’ve used OpenOffice for some things, but a combination of spreadsheets that it doesn’t handle and some strange formatting problems in the word processor have kept me using MS Office.

Member[quote1246894313=TCMuffin]May I ask why you’ve installed Chrome, Firefox, and IE? When you’ve decided which browser you prefer, I recommend uninstalling the others – although you will have to keep IE even if you prefer another browser :([/quote1246894313]
There’s still plenty of sites out there that don’t work right in one browser or another. My main browser is Opera but I keep FF and IE updated for those problem sites (and in IE’s case, for the system bug fixes).I have multiple versions of a variety of browsers for testing purposes on my development machine. Haven’t had any kind of slowdown, though.

MemberThere are fan-made patches that allow the Baldur’s Gate series (and other Infinity engine games) to use widescreen resolutions. (Try “baldur’s gate widescreen” in your favorite search engine.)

MemberEasy enough for me: there’s only three versions that matter here. :)
Is there anything in their settlements that prevents Microsoft from making IE available in Europe? If not, then I’d expect them to put it in the “other stuff you can install” part of Windows Update.
There’s also ftp, of course. I assume that still comes with Win7E.

MemberThat’s what search engines are for. (Well, they confirmed what I was thinking, anyway. :)

Member[quote1246465792=jez]I suspect this will be your problem. I too have always placed my “Recycle Bin” in the bottom right. Not sure why, maybe Atari’s TOS had it there, or Win 3.1?
[/quote1246465792]
Windows 3.x didn’t have a desktop trash can. The Atari ST default (IIRC) is lower-left corner. The Mac and GEOS for the Commodore 8-bits had it in the lower-right. The Amiga had it in a window. :)July 1, 2009 at 3:46 pm in reply to: Microsoft Windows 7 PreOrder: Home Premium $49.99, Professional $99.99 #194892Parody
Member[quote1246462871=TCMuffin]No. Buy Acronis True Image Home for £39.95 instead :)[/quote1246462871]
Yeah, save some money! ::chuckles::There’s plenty of free and/or cheap backup programs and methods out there. I do it more-or-less manually: all I care about is my data, and most of that is kept in a version control system so it’s always backed up to multiple machines. Anything else I care about is at least on a flash drive as well as the NC10.

MemberI uninstalled it as well.
