MemberSame here.. Unless someone can show me that I will get 25%-30% more longevity out of the battery by removing. It is not worth the hassle. I leave mine on all the time and plugged in. And just disconnect and throw in bag heading out.
I would be interested in any studies that show actual savings. Tho spending a $100 for a replacement every 12-24 months isn’t a big deal for me. But my guess is many netbook fanatics like myself sell and upgrade every 18-24 months anyways.

MemberMicrosoft Notebook Mouse 5000 is mine also.
“How about that back-button where the thumb goes?”
Due to it’s reduce size you may not like the placement. But don’t know your personal perferences as I don’t use it much myself as I am so trained in right-click back in firefox.
I have had mine for 2 month’s now and still using original batteries that came with and I never physically turn it off.
No beefs except the noise of mouse wheel making clicking noise when using and is not silent. And the smaller size can be borderline frustrating for some. But seems to be very usable for my hands.

MemberI feel peoples fears of 3rd party batteries are over exaggerated.
Yes you can play it safe and only order the manufacture one and for some items at exorbitant prices.
I have used and know many that have used 3rd party batteries in many items. I personally have used 3rd party batteries in my Nikon D40,D80 and D90 and Panasonic FZ7 cameras with no problems.
And have used 3rd party in half-a-dozen laptops over the years with zero problems.
Yes from time to time a bad version or batch will hit the market and there will be 20 cases of horror posted in multiple forums and blogs. What they forget to mention is the other 5000 batteries operating normally. Or the Tens of Thousands from other 3rd party around the world running just fine.
There are Good 3rd party and Bad 3rd party. And I don’t just group them all together as bad. And the Bad usually disappear from the market pretty fast.

As usb devices have to suck power over the usb to power the device.Maybe someone will now the exact impact usb devices over HD is?

Member“the parker writing pen you can dismantle and shoot the spring at an unsuspecting child the other side of the class.”
Or the whole inside could be shot out like a dart.
We used to stuff the open end ink cartridge with a pin type with the little tiny heads in them. Makes for zip dart gun and ink dart would stick into walls. Got into trouble my early years fashioning dangerous type school weapons.

MemberYep can also be handy for avid book readers. As you can rotate the screen and read all day. Easily someone could spend 3-6 hrs reading in their yard, park, etc… And still may need a couple of hours of web, email afterwards.
More is always better as it would also allow a person on the go to go anywhere from 1-3 days of use before needing to be plugged in. As long as it doesn’t add to much bulk or additional weight to it.

MemberYep I see a lot of crazy Netter’s being belittled for a netbook as a main laptop from alot of users that have those monstrosities the dare call laptops with 15-17 inch screens and 2hr battery life and lugging 6-10 lbs.
I guess I don’t understand what a laptop really is?
For me if it doesn’t get at least 4 hrs than how is it portable having to carry the AC adapter around scourging for a unused outlet.
And lugging a unit with a CD/DVD drive around which out of a 100 users I think I may have seen 1 or 2 actually use it in the wild.
I have the external slim samsung when and if I need to take it with me. But don’t see using it that much that I need to have it with me every time I go out with the sammy.
I could have bought a regular laptop but didn’t fit my idea of what a true portable device is.
1) Lightweight under 4 lbs.
2) Battery longer than 4 hrs.
3) Slim and compact fit just about anywhere.
4) Under $400 (except for Sammy Fudge Factor)I don’t know how many people with laptops have told me neat and yea really nice but ain’t as powerful as their lappy. And yea as I see that all they are doing is Web,email,messenger,mp3,movies and games. And netbook fulfill all those needs except higher end games.
And have friends with their lappy has nice dust ring around it from not actually being taken out and used in the wild. Many have them as their main at home and never leaves the house.
So if a netbook fills the needs then great. Just wished I waited for the 12″ model and 10hr battery life. But the great things about netbooks are cheap enough and popular enough to sell off or buy a new improved version every 6-12 month’s if you are so inclined.
So as the OP’s dilemma is to list absolute needs and then like to have features and decide what compromises if any he is willing to make for the Have It Now! verses wait 1-3 month’s.
The hard part for me is making an honest evaluation of what I Need in a netbook compared to what I like to see in a netbook.
