orb9220 MemberAnd just stumbled on this one freeware and beta was just released in Dec. and looks to be coming along nicely. Version 1.0 just around the corner. http://www.getmusicbee.com/features/ Tho it does require the .net framework. orb9220 MemberYep my next upgrade netbook will be sufficiently different. Like a 12″ swivel convert to touchscreen $500 would be nice and warrant serious consideration by me. orb9220 MemberYep Mediamonkey is a great program. But didn’t have a few things at the time I wanted and that was searching database by album cover. Which at the time didn’t have that feature. May have it now. So went with J. Rivers free Media Jukebox which has all the things I need. But had all that I needed without being locked down iTunes. Best file organization of any digital music jukebox

May 19, 2009 at 11:07 pm in reply to: Flying with the NC10 – How to make Bluetooth "flight safe" in Vista? #192047orb9220 MemberWith the new AirController USB dongle. You can load up Microsoft Flight Simulator 10 and take over control of the cockpit controls. Cool Huh? 🙂 orb9220 Member“Ahh TCMuffin I bet you put them all on a necklace and wear around showing your GCF (Geeky-ness Cool Factor).” And yep if you want onboard encryption built in to device then U3 usb ? I know you can’t have it with SDHC or regular usb drives even with Truecrypt which I use. They have a traveler mode but still need admin privileges on host computer to access files. It needs to be able to run the device file that encrypts and de-encrypts truecrypt containers. Could be wrong but there are U3 usb drives that have onboard encryption as they are treated as a cdrom drive instead of a mass storage device. For me I have encrypted file containers that can be copied to usb,CD,etc.. and transported to another computer with truecrypt installed for access. orb9220 MemberYep notebook isn’t what I needed. I need more Battery Power Scotty!… And what is the point of having a laptop if you are out in the park for the day and have to go running to find an AC plug after only 2hrs? And netbooks are bag friendly and can be slipped in just about any bag for the person on the go. And at under 3lbs won’t overload the bag with other things already inside. I would do the 12″ screen if I had a choice then. And if using outdoors a lot then stay away from glossy screens due to reflections make seeing the screen near impossible. NC20 matte screen? But would have gone with that one. Tho my NC10 is great for what I use it for. orb9220 MemberThink it is a good start and no reason not to have multiple sources for the NC10. Keep up the good works. And the problem I found with the NC10 here in the US tho was availability in the walk in stores as most only carried the Asus,HP,Dell opting I think to leave out the Samsung. Due to space? Agreements with the Biggie suppliers? I kinda fell onto the NC10 from the web while I was researching the Asus 1000HE as my first choice. And to my luck? Nobody had the 1000HE yet and then started to read about the NC10 and was sold and had to purchase from amazon. orb9220 Member“1, glossy screen, can someone tell me the point of glossy screens?” Makes display more correct to actual image. More vibrant colors to actual. Preferred for Image editing and watching video’s. But doesn’t work well in Bright directional lighting like sun and lights due to reflection. My 22″ HP w2207 lcd is glossy and makes for great image editing. But don’t have any directional lighting issues so works great. And looking at the specs falls way short to the NC10. and a 6-cell (3600mAh) battery means maybe 3-4 hrs. 60gb HD less than half of the NC10.
It would have to sell for less than $300 to make it a good price.orb9220 MemberMine came with one. It was in the box and others also have stated it comes with one. Sounds like it’s time to call the store and find out what’s up. orb9220 Member[quote1242239666=Elephant]
What are the risks of running that DVD drive on only 1 USB connection? From what I’ve read, some people who run it with only 1 USB connection don’t have any problems. If you can run it with only 1 USB connection problem-free, then why would they design it to have two? Just curious. Elephant
[/quote1242239666]1) I Burn with one just fine except for one problem. Can’t get table top DVD-Movie compliant discs unless I burn at 6x max. And does not matter if I use both connections and laptop plugged into AC. Burning at 8x with Verbatim discs does not appear to work. May be fine for Data discs at 8x but have tried different manufacturers where Verbatim are considered at the top of the heap and none will play on 3 different tabletop burners but play fine from laptop-burner or another computer. 2) Some laptops have underpowered usb ports and require both connections to maintain the voltage requirements. May 11, 2009 at 8:55 pm in reply to: Looking for an App, sort of simple database, free or not. #191289orb9220 MemberYep it is the stupid program that doesn’t poll the systems screen resolution and adjusts to it. Out of 30-40 programs I have tried I only found 1 or 2? That behaved that way. orb9220 MemberYep that is the way mine is also. And though I love the design is right on my NC10 and can’t help the put less thought and design in the Samsung Slim External DVD Writer. My suspicion is Samsung had a different company make them and just re-badged them samsung? or just doesn’t detail their accessories as much as their main lines? orb9220 MemberYep Battery life is no 1 priority for me. Tho I do have a hankering for a 12″ screen and a 10 hr. battery. I guess I just don’t get what the definition of portable means? As for me portable for me means not seeking out AC outlets after only 2 hrs out. Hell you can watch a HD movie or play a game but then you need to be plugged back into the grid. I can go anywhere and sit for hours reading with mobireader and screen rotated 90 and hold it like a book or watch movie’S not just one and only watch as Lappy users go scurrying into buildings looking for power. But hey My Way is not the only Way except for me.
