ParticipantSpeed3 – Great proverbs and you didn’t mention confucius once ! 🙂
I wish you luck with your endeavours and it reminded me of the old addage “Why do people climb mountains” and the answer used to be “because they are there”However this explanation from outdoor idiots mountaineering site made me chuckle and I thought I would share it 🙂
Quote:
Why do People Climb Mountains?
Submitted by An Outdoor Idiots Team Member.Well? Why?
Get any well-known mountaineer on television or radio and the interviewer is bound to ask that old chestnut. It must be one of the most annoying questions going. Somebody must have asked that question decades ago, and for some reason it seems to have stuck in people’s consciousness.
Why that type of question is reserved for mountaineering is beyond us. Why do anything? Why choose a particular colour of wallpaper? Why go to the gym? Why wear a particular pair of shoes? Why drive a car? Why play football? Why pick your nose?
Most people spend most of their lives doing pointless things, but they don’t keep getting hassled for explanations! So leave the poor mountaineers alone, that’s what we say.
However, we have finally found the definitive answer to this question. In a shocking worldwide scoop, Outdoor Idiots.com can at last put this question to bed. The answer comes from an old climbing journal, back in the days when everything was in black and white.
The original essay was written by a chap in India, and the journal (English) published it under the rather disturbing title, “Mountaineering – an Indian View”. What is disturbing is the suggestion that other Indian mountaineers might be of the same mind as the author of the essay. We don’t think we are looking at the writings of a mind that is under the influence of a particular national identity. We think the writing is better explained by the influence of certain mind-altering substances.
If, by chance, you are the author of this essay, then please get in touch, as we suspect you’ll probably make a good addition to our team.

When you have clicked on “Change advanced power settings” you will see the following screenUnder Multimedia settings > When playing video try changing the “Optimize power savings” On battery: to “Optimize video quality”
Battery life will be compromised but the benefits may well be worth it.Hope this helps

Participantsammyone – I’ve been looking around at unlocking mine and only the DC site seems to be able to do it reliably but not found any free solutions yet. Let us know if you find out anything interesting.
Some thing you may not realise is that the MiFi cannot be charged up by usb whilst it is in operation. Seems an incredible oversight so it is limited to the 5 – 6 hour charge and then the 1.5 – 2 hour downtime whilst recharging.
You have probably seen RachaelB’s MiFi review here but if not there is about 14 pages of preamble build-up so if you want to cut to the chase then work back from the last page 🙂
Hope this helps

Finally! The 7.7.0.348 driver works with the Airport Express. Thanks very much for the advice.[/quote1261870977]Your welcome, that’s great news.
It had to turn out to be the last one on the list though, as it’s never the first one tried.
Just the way it goes but glad it worked out well in the end 🙂jeepers01

What you are experiencing is not normal behaviour to be expected and the wifi should connect within a few seconds.Do you have any other wireless pc’s in the house to check if they are working correctly with the router? or any other devices that may have conflicting IP addresses?
Try checking what wireless driver you have installed at the moment. This driver has been reported recently to be reliable in the N130 and it maybe worth ugrading to it if yours is a different version.
Realtek RTL8192E Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC
Driver version 1676.10.911.2009
Driver date 11/09/2009However the problem you describe seems to indicated that the DHCP server in the router is providing the IP address slowly and / or intermittently.
Check in the router settings that the DHCP server is On.
Check that the router is issuing DHCP addresses similar to this example obtained from ipconfig /all (start > run > cmd)
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.21(Preferred)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 26 December 2009 18:25:01
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 26 December 2009 23:04:37
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1As a suggestion try fixing the IP address on the sammy to avoid using the DHCP server as if this resolves the problem then the issue is confirmed as being in the router. (if so then a firmware upgrade may solve it)
To fix IP address (to make it static) see example below
Choose an IP address below the router DHCP starting address. ie in this case tell the DHCP server to start issuing addresses above 192.168.0.21. Also making sure that other devices on the network use different addresses. The Default Gateway is your router IP address
Depending on your router manufacturer your Gateway address may differ slightly eg. 192.168.1.1I use fixed DNS Server addresses from http://www.OpenDNS.org because they are very fast
If you choose to use them it is best to change them in the router as well to get the full advantage of the surfing speed increase I have found I get over my ISP’s rather slow DNS servers. It really does make a difference to the surfing experience, for me.
I get between 20 and 30ms pings whereas from other ISP’s the pings can be up to twice as long.Hope this helps and let us know how you get on

ParticipantMark – Have a look on ebay, the average price seems to be 65 to 73 UKpnds then you would have to add the fitting charge. It is not a too difficult job to do if you are adept at diy. If you decide to do it yourself I have some links in my bookmarks, so just ask.
Hope this helps

thx for your help, but what if i install only xp and not a dual boot system, will i then be able to go back to win 7 starter???[/quote1261846725]If you have the Win 7 media disk then you can re-load it later if you wish but I don’t think the media is provided with the N130.Your best bet may be to consider a dual boot system as has been described in another recent thread.
N140 Dual Boox Win7 & XP ProMake sure you back up an image of the Win 7 system if you do not have the media.
Hope this helps

Have you have tried the [Fn] + [F8] speed steps whilst the software is loading ie stepping to Silent mode, slowest processor speed.
Alternatively there is Bochs IA-32 Emulator Project which is an open source x86 PC emulator. It may help and may be worth a try but I dont know if it will run on the VIA Nano CPU.Hope this helps and let us know how you get on
