Participant[quote1262373412=jtheakston]Hi Everyone
I’ve just bought an N140 and being very new to this I have been reading this forum and just seen a post about removing McAfee, but I wanted to ask your advice on what antivirus software is best to download if this one isn’t any good?
Thanks[/quote1262373412]Welcome to the forumIf you are going to remove McAfee then after uninstalling run the removal tool. See this thread
There are several free anti-virus packages out there – eg. Avira, Avast, AVG which forum members have found good. I currently, along with others on the forum, use Microsoft Security Essentials, also free and seems to work well and not hog resources.
Hope this helps

ParticipantNickColley – I’m running Win 7 / XP dual boot and Ubuntu as well now. I like Win 7 but I’ve not found it faster than XP but it’s a whole lot slicker and has some nice touches.
I remember reading one forum poster saying that he found Win 7 faster with 1GB than 2GB ram but that is not the general consensus as 2GB is recommended.
Have a look through some of the posts on the Win 7 forum where others have given their impressions.
Hope this helps

ParticipantNickColley – I would say if you want to change it and experiment – why not have some fun. 🙂
Keep a backup of the original file before changing it so you can revert if it doesn’t work out as you had hoped.
Let us know how it goes

Participantsturm1909 – I had a look at the picture and as long as there are no bridges between the contacts it should be fine.
Just be careful to observe anti-static precautions when handling the module 😀
The acid test is to try the 1GB module.Hope this helps and let us know how it goes

That does seem a unique problem and I can see why you suspect the train vibrations. However you could try re-installing/upgrading the Synaptics touchpad driver.
I realise that you don’t want to have to return the unit under warranty but it might be a good idea to ring Samsung and discuss it through with them. They may know of a fix for the issue and also it would be an ideal time to register the issue with them as if it returns in the future it will be a known warranty issue for your machine.
Hope this helps and let us know how you get on

If you are going to tackle the soldering these links may help. Getting some de-solder braid and perhaps a solder sucker will help with removing the switch if it is wired through the motherboard.

If re-booting does not cure it then try Windows Restore. Roll back to a Point prior to the .net framework installation.Hope this helps

FIrst of all: thanks for having me 🙂 and thanks for the quick replies![/quote1262309177]Your welcomeQuote:@jeepers: I did use the search function and I also found the threads you linked in your post! but they only contained questions like “is Win7 64-bit working on the NC20” or “My keyboard doesnt work after installing Win7” and so on…There is always bad news that jumps off the page but this mainly relates to problems members have had in obtaining Win 7 drivers. The good news is buried perhaps a little deeper. On the search page is this thread Win 7 32 bit or 64 bit? where Trubbel has the 64 bit version running but finds the 32 bit version faster. Lonestar on the other hand finds that Win 7 64 bit runs faster then XP.
Quote:My question is: how does the performance of Win 7 specifically look on the NC20 in terms of Aero usage and graphic display. Does it run smooth or are there any signs of an overextended cpu or lagging? It runs just fine on my NC10 in dual boot configuration with XP and I would expect it to be better, if anything, on the NC20. There have been some NC20 freezing issues reported but I believe this has largely been overcome by selecting the correct graphics driver. (mentioned on page 2 of the search results)
Hope this helps

Yeah thats pretty much what i had in mind, but there hasnt been an update to that post for some time now…[/quote1262308068]Yes it’s a shame the project wasn’t finished but it should work out ok.Quote:Ok, removed the usb hub and rewired it with a usb plug and its still showing that its a usb1 hub… i must have damaged something… i will get another hub some time this week and try again…maybe the camera port is usb2.0 afterall…The camera usb is usb2.0. You could try your hub in another usb port or another machine to verify it’s status.
