ParticipantSherlock Homeless – Welcome to the forum
I would think that should be doable however the MBR would possibly be overwritten/changed in your new XP installation process. That said you may be lucky and the F4 may still work.
If you subsequently need to fix the MBR, this can be done with the Samsung Admin Tool.
Details are in this thread.Make a complete disk image backup of all partitions before you proceed 🙂
Hope this helps

Participant[quote1263679714=mikeymoo]Just to chip in – I’ve tried the Ubuntu Netbook Remix which works flawlessly on my bro-in-law’s netbook but wouldn’t run on my NC20. I believe you need an intel Atom for it to work. If you know different please let me know as I’d love to give it a try.[/quote1263679714]Your right mikeymoo, thanks for pointing that out.
It appears, on checking, that Remix has only been certified on the NC10 which is surprising to me.
I found this thread on the Ubutu forums which may be of interest to those running other Ubuntu distros on the NC20.

If you just want a simple solution to transfering your files from your sammy with Win 7SE and your PC with XP you could use an on-line file storage facility.
There are several free options to choose from and you could try Windows Live SkyDrive as it offers 25GB capacity.
Hope this helps

Lol – great minds think alike 🙂I’d already done that, jeepers01, your edit overwrote mine :)[/quote1263664752]You must have done your edits whilst I was reading the post.
Perhaps we should get jez to switch on the “lock post when editing” option, if there is one, but it’s more likely to be found on the e107 update wish list 🙂

Cheer for fixing that jeepers01!Nah, I didn’t use any flux or indeed any components apart from an old soldering iron! Must confess I was pleasantly surprised it went in so smoothly as the pins are so tiny and fiddly.[/quote1263663047]
Your welcomeI know what you mean about the pins being so tiny as I have a connector but have not got around to soldering it in yet. It looks like I have the same pci-e connector that you have used.
All that remains now is to get out a 1mm soldering iron and a powerful magnifier, as my eyes are not what they used to be 🙂

Participant[quote1263662379=marvello]My cracked screen has made a remarkable recovery. The 3″ crack originally had blue/black distortion either side of it, as if someone had taken a marker pen and drawn it. After a few days this has now all but disappeared leaving just a hairline crack that is barley noticeable and a 1cm x 0.5cm black ‘mark’ on the edge of the screen. This is something I can live with as it doesn’t get in the way much[/quote1263662379]That’s really good news.
Your sammy must have magical healing properties mixed with a bit of good fortune 🙂

Participantgraemem – Welcome to the forum
Thanks for posting an excellent and very useful guide.
Did you use a flux pen and any cleaning solution on the motherboard solder pads before soldering?
btw: I fixed the long ebay link and re-sized images to 550px, hope you don’t mind.

Participantpurchase – Welcome to the forum
Your posting seems to have slipped under the radar and has not attracted any replies 🙁
As a suggestion it would be an idea to try Windows Live Messenger or Skype and see if they get the microphone working.
Hope this helps

Participantlefty – It would be worth contacting the seller and informing about the problem. The seller may be able to provide more information and possibly another card or a refund.

ParticipantGiovanni – Welcome to the forum
Some users have reported problems with accidentally brushing the keypad with the hands whilst typing and this is a similar issue to the one you are experiencing.
To check if this is part of the problem you could try disabling the touchpad when typing with [Fn] + [F10] and it may be worth re-installing the touchpad driver as well as it could have something to do with the garbled text issue.
Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

Participantnours – You could try Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I have used the 9.1 distro installed to a bootable memory stick which can either be run directly from the stick or installed to the sammy if you choose to.
It contains Firefox and is very fast compared to XP or Win 7 and the setup is very easy too. For wireless just click on the icon at the top of screen, enter your key and it’s connected, simple as that.
In short I was very impressed with the distro 🙂Hope this helps
