MemberI replaced my atheros card with the bgn version of the Intel 5100 card (512AN_MMWW) which has the same two aerial connections. It worked perfectly as soon as I installed it. I installed the Intel Connection Utility from the supplied CD to replace the Windows drivers and it gives rock-solid connection all around the house. The Atheros card gave repeated disconnections no matter which driver I installed.

MemberI’ve finally solved my wifi problems properly. I purchased a Intel 5100 module for £15.66 including P&P and fitted it. Result no drops to router or internet, much greater range and inssider shows a straight line graph at a much higher level. Well worth doing if you’re confident at taking your netbook apart, have an anti-static wrist strap and the right screwdriver (pozi 0). I let windows download the driver from the supplied CD. Takes about 10 minutes.

MemberThank-you for that jeepers01
I had tried that program before but I was downloading the wrong version of NET. It seems to require NET2.
Now installed and pointed out where my network should be.
Cheers.hilldweller
MemberJust a quick question, how do I determine which channels my neighbours are using ? I don’t think they will know themselves.
I tried downloading netstumbler but it only told me the frequency that my router was using. The neighbours channels were not displayed.hilldweller
MemberI’ve changed the windows settings to Access Point (Infrastructure) connection only and touch-wood it’s now rock solid, even after sleep mode awakening.
Thanks for the help.hilldweller
MemberI spoke too soon, it’s dropping out several times a day. I’ve now established that it drops the internet when one of my two neighbours switches on their routers. Their signals are only about 40% on my netbook compared with my 100% signal and they are both encrypted.
I still think that a change of wifi card is my best bet if I can identify a suitable card.hilldweller
MemberThank-you for your reply jeepers01.
I’ve done as you suggested and fingers crossed the wifi link is behaving its self. Obviously early days yet but before it was dropping out several times a day.
Thanks again.
