MemberI have a N110 running XP, Office2007 and Kaspersky Internet Security. I run the screen in 1024×768 mode (i.e. you can still only see 600 vertical but the screen scrolls up and down to reveal the other 128). I was dubious about the benefits of upgrading to 2GB (I’m also very dubious about the applicability of academic benchmark results in the real world) but went ahead with it anyway.
I have been very pleasantly surprised by the improvement in Office 2007 open/close performance. Outlook 2007 opens much quicker with the 2GB RAM as does Word and Word, which took a prolonged time to close, now closes without delay. So, for me, it has been a worthwhile upgrade.

MemberAlthough I haven’t had problems with Word 2007 and Excel 2007 on my N110, I couldn’t get on with the limited display of daily entries in monthly calendar view using Outlook 2007, so I now run with Office 2007 for everything except Outlook function and use Outlook 2003 instead.
It all works well enough and has caused no system/version problems.

Does 0.1″ (~2.5 mm) really matter 😕
[/quote1252848575]
The question is not whether it matters but if it is noticeable and I noticed it without being prompted. Can I live with? Yes but that doesn’t alter the fact that the height of the NC10 screen is some 5mm (4%) greater than that of the N110GTS
Member[quote1252847765=Bertolt]
That makes no sense. If the width is the same but the height is different, then one of them will be showing graphics stretched.

Whether or not it makes sense is a subjective call. Two independent posts show that is a fact.GTS

I had the 2 machines side by side when I was setting up the N110 and noticed that the characters in the Taskbar on the N110 looked smaller than those on the NC10, so I measured the screens (I knew that the NC10 was spec’ed as 10.2 inch diagonal and the N110 as 10.1) and found that the screens are the same width but the height of the NC10 is 13cm whereas the N110 is 12.5cm. Granted, 0.5cm might not seem much but I did notice the difference.GTS
MemberI had a very similar experience when I upgraded my Lenovo ThinkPad from 1 Gig (with Vista; who are they kidding?) to 2.5 Gig. The 2 Gig RAM supplied by Crucial was faulty but the replacement worked fine. The RMA exchange process worked well but you don’t get refunded for the return postage.

NC10 is old school 🙂
[/quote1251828755]So is XP vs Vista but I know which I would choose to run on a 1Gig, low power processor machine 😀

I’m still happy with my N110 (bought at the new reduced £330 price!) but, it retrospect I might have gone for the NC10 if I had known about the reduced screen height (every little bit helps at my age)..
[/quote1251808209]Have you compare the battery life between the two machines? Most reports say the N110 lasts longer…
[/quote1251810447]
I haven’t run a comparison because my wife uses her NC10 mainly for browsing whereas I do a lot of Excel 2007 and more file intensive stuff on mine. Having just seen the NC10 at £249 in Argos (I know it’s the 3 cell battery type) I would (now) have gone for that and saved the £80!( ….. but I’m still happy with the N110)

MemberI was in Argos today (1 Sep) and they are still selling the NC10 at £249.
GTS
MemberIt looks like DABS are selling the 6 cell NC10 (in various colours) for £289 and I think that is including postage.

(By the way, Samsung UK’s site is listing the N110’s dimensions as 272×118.5x 29.8 which is incorrect; these are the dimensions for the N120)
… and I’ll give Windows 7 a miss for a while; the performance with XP is fine for my needs and it is reliable.

MemberI was in PC World today (18 Aug) and they were selling it at £329.99, so it looks like this is indeed the new price.
By the way, nobody else seems to be selling the N110. Have PC World/Currys got an exclusive UK distribution deal on this model?

MemberI’ve been using my wife’s NC10 recently and a) I’m still impressed with it (just as well, because I recommended that she bought it!) and b) the only thing that is stopping me replacing my laptop is that I would like a 1280 x 800 screen, so I’m really interested in getting a NC20. Obviously, this thread has got me a bit worried, so the impossible question is: is this screen power-on problem a systematic issue with NC20s. I’ve done a bit of googling but can’t find any other references to it.
I assume that there are lots of problem-free NC20 users but a bit more information / reassurance would help me decide to go with the NC20 (or, maybe, not!).
