Membermusicinme,
welcome to the forum.
is the backlight working but not adjusting? If so, are you sure that windows update hasn’t delivered a new driver for you? Check in the windows update history.
what driver do you have installed for the GPU?

MemberTiagofrancisco,
N550 specification:
“Max Memory Size
(dependent on memory type) 2 GB”from – http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=50154
I think the CPU is limited to 2G itself, despite it being 64bit. (same with N450).

MemberSarahO, welcome to the forum, sorry only just seen your post.
Does it (the N220 and the RealTek card) work on any network? i.e. has it ever connected properly to anything?
My N220 is quite poor when using ‘n’, have you tried forcing it to use ‘g’? ‘control panel’ – ‘network and sharing center’ – ‘change adapter settings’ – Left-click then right-click the realtek wireless network connection – properties – in the ‘connect using list’ pick the realtek adapter, and click configure. Click the advanced and in the ‘property’ list highlight wireless mode. In the value list select IEEE 802.11b/g not b/g/n. Click
Can it connect then? If it does then it will run a little slower than a ‘n’ link but on my BT HH2 router not much slower in practice and its a lot more stable connection than my N220 ‘n’ connection.

March 3, 2011 at 11:52 am in reply to: N220 – How to get all apps/games to use the broadcom graphics chipset? #218382Fred232
Member“Can’t remember which game it was now but will find it again” – Yes please, I’d be interested in which game and if others can be made to use it. I’ve always read that it can’t be used in games.
Maybe (as it runs with Flash) some Adobe based Flash/Shockwave games may be able to use it – possibly?
But if it can be used in modern 3D games I’d be keen as well. But I’ve never read that anywhere.

MemberI’m not sure it works for games, I thought it was for HD video etc and for applications like GOM video player and browsers etc.
The broadcom site doesn’t seem to mention games as far as I can see. But mentions apps like – “Windows Media Player 12, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, ArcSoft TotalMedia™ Theatre (OEM edition) and CyberLink PowerDVD (OEM edition), and, GOMplayer, Kmplayer and Media Player Classic, with their (broadcom) latest drivers loaded.

Member‘gartylad’ and ‘capitanscience’ – FYI – “not sure if this due to ‘Windows 7 Starter’ “ on my N220, still running W7 starter its the same 4 options – ” 1) Do Nothing 2)Sleep 3)Hibernate 4)Shut Down. “

MemberCan’t say for sure, not done it myself, but until someone pops in with some ‘real info’ is this the sort of thing you wanted?
N150 Keyboard £19.99
and I dont know how similar or different they are, but there is a post here about replacing an NC10 keyboard.Anyway, hopefully someone who has done it will ‘chip-in’ soon.

MemberAlistairKelman,
well spotted, that looks quite a decent offer. Looking at the advert it clearly says “BT 2” so as __spc__ says, I think it should have it.
Is there anything in device manager for a disabled BT device for example or a listed ‘unknown’ device?
If not, call and ask Dixons.
Can I ask, did it come with an XP disc, or is it preloaded in a restore partition as my W7 N220?
(I know someone who wants a netbook and may be interested but does def want windows discs. Hates all this restore stuff – can’t say I blame ’em either.)Fred232
Membersteve h, I dont think there is any way to set a new background without use of 3rd party programs. There are a few around but as to which is best, I couldn’t say. But the following are a few examples:
Oceanis
Stardock
StarterWallpaperChanger
There is also a long post on the MS-Answers forum about this which apparently shows a way of doing it by registry editing (I’ve not tried and cannot confirm this) and mentions a few other ways as well.
etc – I’m sure there are others.Or the official MS method, and pay for an upgrade.
NOTE: As always update your Av checker and check anything before installing, and probably backup your registry if attempting the regedit version and make a restore point. Just playing safe 😉

MemberThats a shame.
I’d say that the failing USB controller is probably the cause. I believe a good few internal webcams are USB driven, mine seems to be from the USBVIDEO.SYS file. This may help if you haven’t already tried, both the un-installing then turning off and removing battery etc for a while, then restarting. I found a few posts where total power down and battery removal replace and restart claimed to have fixed it (for some – sadly not all).

Memberatomjetsam, welcome to the forum.
There are a few posts around regarding ‘missing’ webcams.
I have an N220 (original not a plus), but luckily for me its always worked. (not that that helps you).A few things to try:
1. My PC appears not to have this option, but as yours is a later model, is there an option in the BIOS to disable the webcam.
2. In Device Manager, mine is listed under ‘Imaging devices’. If yours isn’t there, does Device Manager show any ‘unknown’ or ‘other’ devices usually with yellow question marks? OR is anything disabled esp USB controllers etc
3. The N220 came with Cyberlink YouCam preloaded. From the search menu just type ‘you’ (no quotes) and it should appear towards, if not at the top of the results. If you have that as well, try running it. If it is there and it runs, can that ‘see’ the camera? My camera is listed as a WebCam SCB-0340N, apparently running driver 6.1.7600.16543 from Microsoft ( usbvideo.sys in c:windowssystem32drivers ), but I don’t know how similar or different the hardware is between the two machines. Also there is an XP driver here for the old n210 for a camera, but again I don’t know how different or similar the n210 and n210+ are, and there appears to be no W7 driver.
Something you can try, type ‘msinfo32’ in search and you should see msinfo32.exe – click it. Expand Components and Problem Devices – is it listed there?
I think sadly, the real problem is Samsung support. I mean surely they should know and be able to tell you if/what driver their netbook requires? But sadly, my experience with them is they can’t or won’t.

MemberThanks

MemberGSB1, thanks for the info. I don’t seem to have been offered it yet on my netbook, but its nice to know that it should load OK.
Is there anything in it thats new or is it just a fix round-up do you know? -
