MemberHI 8sutton and Tony, thanks for your responses and suggestions. I have AVG controlling my anti-virus so I uninstalled McAfee right at the start.
I burrowed into msconfig and discovered only a few programmes were starting up. I disabled some and am now down to about three minutes start up. I’ll live with this for the time being and may tackle it again and disable some more later. Thanks again.Ted

MemberThank you Fanboi for your caution. I began to consider the wisdom of downgrading then tonyb came up with the wisdom of check and check. I retyped all the SMTP details and HEY PRESTO it now works. Thank you all for your thoughts and advice. Ted

MemberThank you _spc_ for your reply. The thread was too complex for me. I did, however, speak with a technician at my ISP who offered the thought that Win7 was not yet fully compatible with Thunderbird and, in order to make it work, I could “downgrade” to XP. Samsung are happy for me to do that and suggested all I have to do is to load XP from my Desktop Windows CD and all should be well!
Sounds all too good to be true. Is it? Can anyone shed light on a drawback?
Thanks
Ted

MemberHi jeepers01and thanks for returning. Most of the time the problem seems to be with the touchpad but has happened with the mouse.
I love the phrase ‘involuntary selection clicks’. I’ll pay more attention to that phenomenon over the weekend. Cheers

MemberThank you for your comment. I checked this morning and found the Snap to button was already un-ticked. I’m a bit lost here as the “delayed action” goes on.

MemberHi thanks for the welcome and the additional info.I have added Fn+F8 to VLC media player, iTunes and System Mechanic. Can I assume now that each time I open these applicationns they will run in their ‘faster’ mode?

MemberHi A Crusty newby here with a Black N110 and W7starter. I’ve modified the power settings as recommended above but the Fn+F8 just toggles between normal and silent. Is it me or the W7starter?
