If my netbook was under warranty it would have been sent to samsung to get repaired. If you have been following this thread you would know the problem is to do with samsungs usage of cheap fragile off/on switches that are proprietary to the model and samsung should be held responsible for that mistake. I, as the consumer should not be forced to pay a repair bill to samsung to fix a flaw in their design in order for me, the consumer to continue to use the product they sold to me.
In good faith I gave them my hard earned cash in return for a product that is supposed to perform reasonably. They in return delivered a product that was not up to standards of durability for normal day to day use, and the flaw or weakpoint is in the form of the very basic function of simply powering the device off and on.
Recap – they break too easy! And with normal use! And the problem is that a person cannot find a direct replacement unless you have samsung do the repair. That is theft by the manufacturer against the consumer.
So, if your netbook is out of warrenty then you are stuck with a $100 repair bill, and that often does not include the shipping/handling and your personal downtime without your computer and all of that over a fragile $.02 piece of thin plastic! To further elaborate, consider this? This netbook costs over $300 new, and to face paying a $100 repair bill ( Thats 1/3 the cost of the entire computer new) for a $.02 fragile on/off switch and just to surely have it break all over again because they will only replace it with another cheap switch? Thats insanity. Go ahead and send it back to samsung and have them replace the same cr@p switch. The saying ” a fool and his money will soon part” dealing with samsung that way will make you a fool, and samsung wealthier.
If you are lucky to have yours break under warranty then you only have to deal with shipping it and being without a computer for a couple weeks. But if you own one of these netbooks it will eventually go out of warranty and you will certainly be footing the bill for repair too.
It is samsungs responsibility to repair and replace the plastic piece of @#$ power switch with a durable improved design whether or not the netbook is under warranty.
I as a regular consumer of electronics will remember this issue. It will negatively effect my decision to purchase any more samsung products in the future, that is the bottom line. There is plenty of competition out there that can deliver a quality product, its a shame samsung will not stand behind their products.

Take the most vital component, powerswitch, and make it as fine as a baby’s hair. Well done Samsung. You saved a fraction of a cent….and lost yourself a future customer. I will have to think twice before buying ANY samsung product, be it camera, hard drive, cellphone…..rant over.
I do still love their monitors, although I had to recently replace some “elcheapo”caps on my 22” to get it working again. But Im right there withya !

MemberThanks for the reply sHog. I got it repaired by soldering in a momentary switch button from another computer and installing it into the original slider location. Works like it was supposed to in the first place.
I am disappointed with Samsung. They should know by now that they have a shoddy switch on these units that break too easily. They should not charge their customers to repair this defect but they will gladly do so if out of warranty which ours was by several weeks… of course.
If we manhandled the switch and broke it by being rough with it, I would be the first to take responsibility. But in our case my wife just went to switch it on and snap. There is a thin piece of plastic that connects the slider button to the actual switch. This is what fails. Once that breaks it need to have the entire switch desoldered from the mainboard then replaced with a new one. You cannot find the correct replacement switch, at least I couldnt through searching the net.
Anyway it was for the better, the thought of paying samsung to replace it with just another piece of cheap cr@p that will break again eventually is why I did our own repair. Otherwise the netbook has been good to us.

MemberIm having the same exact issue, and of course our N130 is just out of warrenty! I opened the back to see if I could fix the problem, but there is no physical part that connects the switch face to the Mobo, I have searched the entire insides for any loose pieces.
It really is a mystery I would like to get fixed. We Payed a lot of money for this netbook to have such a menial problem end our usage of it. Our Netbook has been a paperweight for three months now! 😡 Has anyone found a solution?
