What type of Wireless card is it? Does it have integrated bluetooth?
Try finding it in device manager, right-click on it and go to Properties. In the Power Management tab make sure something like “Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power” is not ticked. If it is that’s likely causing it to lose connectivity.
Unless it’s an XP driver issue I don’t see how switching to Windows 7 would help.
It’s a Realtek card, no bluetooth. I found an updated Realtek driver, and installed it – no change. Though today she used it and the wifi held out for an hour or so.
No, “Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power” isn’t ticked, either.
Someone on the specific Netbook model thread had the same problem and solved it by changing from XP home to XP professional. If the problem recurs I might try that first. Yesterday I was pretty much in a state of panic because the netbook wouldn’t hold a wifi connection for more than 5-10 minutes, even though it kept telling me it had a strong signal (LIES!).
Thanks for your help!

MemberI wonder if you found a solution to this, because I’m having the same problem after years of accessing wifi on my netbook – I have an N130, and lately it won’t connect. It says it’s connected, and has no problem accepting my username and password, but then if you try to access anything, it’s all “you are not connected to the internet”. It can work for 5, 10, or 15 minutes and then just goes.
Online, I found a temporary solution, which involves starting Services.msc, scrolling down to Wireless Zero Configuration, right-clicking and choosing “Stop”. That helps for a while, but soon it’s gone again. And after you reboot, you have to do the same thing all over again.
I’m starting to think that the only possible solution is getting rid of XP altogether – I’m just not sure if I’ll replace it with Ubuntu or Windows 7.
Edited to add: My wifi card is a Realtek, and I upgraded the drivers, hoping that would solve the problem. It didn’t.
