MemberThanks, I do indeed like the NC10. I love my Eee but the tiny HDD and screen limit it too much. However it has the main characteristic a netbook must have and that is extreme portability. A netbook is a compromise between small and cheap, vs., well, everything else good. To me the NC10 is at the top end of the acceptable size/weight window but brings enough to the party to justify it. IMHO a device with a 12″ screen ain’t a netbook, it’s just a slightly smaller notebook.
I nearly went for the AA1 but the difficulty of memory upgrades and the shiny screen put me off.
For the record mine is a black (fingerprint magnet) NC10. Box is printed NP-NC10-KA02UK. I got it as an A1 refurb for £209.99 and it really did look like a brand new unit with all protective film etc in place and zero fingerprints. Hard disk is a 160Gb WDC WD1600BEVT (presumably Western Digital) 8Mb cache, 5400rpm, SATA300 etc
Anybody confirm if I have a 6-cell battery? I believe it is but even having done a search it’s not that clear. The battery is labelled “AA-PB8NC6B Standard Battery Pack” and is 5200mAh.
So far I’ve done little to it but install Firefox and set it up for max screen space (Compact Menu, small icons etc). Oh and installed about a dozen older games, 11 of which are working really well. More details in a later post.
I also intend to put a nice streamlined Linux distro on it (quick booting for web browsing, basic WP etc.
