MemberThis might sound stupid but i have G router but i want to uprade to a N router so i can get better coverage, would my NC10 be able to handle this?

MemberYes of course. but the maximum speed will be that of the G for your nc10 unless you upgrade the wireless card as per “hacks and mods” forum. with an N router, you’ll get better coverrage although your mileage may vary depending on your setup.

ParticipantIt won’t only be G for the Netbook, the wireless network will only operate a the speed of the slowest device connected to it. So when the NC10 with it’s standard WiFi card is connected, all devices connected will slow down to the speed of 802.11g. It’s even worse if you have any 802.11b devices connected.
However if you’re old G router has en ethernet WAN port (not an ADSL modem) then you could connect it to the new N router and have 2 wireless networks, one for 802.11b/g devices and the other for 802.11n devices.

Memberi have 2 laptops connected to the router both 802.11g, so if i get a N router it will make no difference to the G router? the main reason is coverage as my G router struggles with connection when i take my laptop downstairs, also the connection of my other laptop cuts off every 20mins, this has been happening since i got the NC10.

ParticipantAs far as I know to benefit from the increased range 802.11n offers you will need to have both an N router and an N network card in the laptop. However it may be that your current router does not have that greater range so a new router may still help.
If you are having issues connecting to the router when you are on the floor below, it may be a problem with interference from something. It is also rather odd that the other laptop has been cutting out every 20 minutes, is this very regular?

[/quote1242370052]What about investing in a range extender?

MemberI am using a Hercules (£38 from Amazon) to extend the range of my WAG160N. It provides the easiest solution to bad reception around the house but is not perfect. Transfer speeds are supposed to be about half that of the original network but when browsing etc it is not noticeable.
