Windows Live Messenger 2009

I have been happily using Messenger 8.5 for some months on my NC10. Having been forced to download and install the latest version (2009) I find that the sound is broken. It is badly distorted/broken up and barely usable.

A quick Google of the problem points to the fact that the problem seems to exist for various flavours of netbook with a similar chipset to the NC10.

If this problem is widespread there are going to be a lot of unhappy people and I imagine that the Messenger crew will be inclined to fix it.

Is there anyone here who has been able to get satisfactory sound when using this latest incarnation of Messenger?

Hi Basiltoo,

That may explain the useless chat with my dad yesterday, the sound was dreadful. Having said that, I am able to chat to someone using an Acer Linux IM prog from my unasked for new MSN messenger.

I will have to test it with others.

i used the older msn and the chat was terrible but have always found it perfect with skype though

you could use Trillian, a free msn replacement which connects to the msn network…not sure of the voice capabilities, but might work as a stop gap before proper msn is fixed.
