Hi
I have saved the windows 7 system files to dvd but of course that isn’t a bootable installation disc.
All my other windows computers came with (and needed from time to time) a bootable windows installation disc for re-installation/repair (especially MBR). How do I make one?
Small point – I can’t put N140 as my Sammy in my settings file.

You can go to Control Panel, System and Security, Backup and Restore. In the left hand column click on Create a System Repair Disc. This will let you burn a repair disc for fixing MBR problems, etc. It won’t let you reinstall, though, but it’s better than nothing.
This is assuming, of course, that you’ve either got an external USB DVD drive, or access to another computer with Win7 on it and a burner.

You can use Samsung Recovery Solution to back up the system to external media.
Also you can restore the system with F4 at boot as well which uses the recovery partition data made at the time of the initial sammy setup.Hope this helps
Thanks. Is there a post on fitting a new hard drive and installing Windows 7 from the original(and still healthy) drive? Am I right on thinking that on hard drive failure installation of Windows 7 to a new drive necessitates the purchase of a new copy of Windows 7?
Assuming you won’t be using the copy of Windows on the old hard drive, you’d just be reinstalling the same legal copy of Windows onto the new hard drive, using the same Product Key, so that’s okay. You just can’t have two installations of Windows at the same time using the same key.
