MemberHi Guys,
I just got a Samsung NC20 and it’s a great laptop.
I’ve installed Windows 7 RC1 as I wanted to check it out but I’m having some difficulties with getting Vista or 7 compatible drivers for the NC20. I read a few other threads and got the impression that Windows 7 should work on the NC20 with all drivers.
However all of the drivers on the Samsung site are for XP and when I tried to install the XP Graphics drivers for the VIA video card it failed claiming it was the wrong OS. The Samsung driver CD wouldn’t run properly because of script issues.
I did a few Google searches for Vista/7 drivers for NC20 but couldn’t find anything significant.
Is anyone here running Windows 7 on their NC20 and could tell me where to find compatible drivers?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers

MemberThe video driver installed shows as a standard VGA driver, and I can’t seem to get the advanced aero graphical features to work.. so didn’t think it was the correct VIA driver?

MemberAll you had to do was run Windows Update. That will install everything except for the card reader driver.

Not true. It’s better to run drivers designed for Windows 7, rather than installing XP/Vista drivers under Win 7. The drivers installed by Windows Update are new, and designed specifically for Win 7.May 14, 2009 at 5:09 am #191328angelwolf71885

agian its bedder to have drivers frm the manufaturer rather then the MS trow togather drivers..
becase the manufacturer actuialy knows what thay are doing..
MS surly dose not..case in point..some nevida drivers for nvida gpus dnt wrk and result in a black screen..
yet the drivers frm the manufacturer actuialy wrk and has the fetures that MS desides t remove..incase u have also relized 7 IS vista… its the ezact same acratecher.. WDDM 1.0 and 1.1 are no diffrent
in performiance 1.1 just takes advatage of dx 11 visuials thats all..just like 200 and xp are the exact same acatecture.. no real diffrance betond a theme..
ALWAYS git the drivers frm the manufaturer bc thay know what thay are ding and spesulise in drivers for the device.. MA surly dosent..
and can and HAS screwed up drivers before.. caseing black screens and bsods..case in point..the older nvidia tesla gpu in xp WU says thair is a driver update//
but when u install it..u git a black screen.. and u have to revert the drivers..yet when u install nvidias vershion thair are NO issues..

MA surly dosent…I tend to agree… In general, hardware manufacturers are the ones who made their wares and write their drivers to get their wares run properly inside any OS environment, including Windows OS environments; therefore, the most up-to-date (& usually better) drivers are the ones posted on the manufacturers’ sites…

MemberAnd yet, it’s been manufacturer graphics drivers that have caused many people using the NC20 to have lockups. I’ve only had one, and I’m using the display driver installed automatically by Windows 7. Similarly, on other netbook forums I’ve seen complaints re m/f drivers for wireless cards in particular, whereas the default ones or the ones DL’d through Windows Update tend to be fine.
Personally, I think it’s all in the luck of the draw.

MemberBased on my past personal experience dealing with drivers, the ones installed by the OS by default are more conservative and tended to be more stability oriented; whereas, the ones updated by the manufacturers are more performance and feature oriented. Manufacturers usually update their drivers for one or more of these few reasons: 1) to fix known bugs, 2) to optimize performance, and/or 3) add features. Unfortunately, along the way when doing any of these three things, they some times inadvertently introduce new bugs; hence, we keep seeing driver updates rolling out (which by the way is a good thing), until the day a product is at the end of a manufacturer’s support cycle…

Memberhi,
i am running win7 64-bit on my nc20 without any problems
and it works really good and fast! (but i don’t use the card slot). i just installed via 64-bit gpu drivers from their homepage.
and yes the card reader works on win7. their should be a folder on your driver cd called BASW-01254A with VIA Hyperion Pro drivers -> start setup.exe with vista compatib. mode.
(i never did it, i read it in another forum.) maybe you have to update your device manager, too.September 24, 2009 at 11:15 am #191337whc
MemberNice did the xp mode setup, now the SD card reader works :).
Now onlye one problem left with W7, no able to write “@”, never seen anything like this before, but simply don’t work…
